I have a gallon jug of this Lucas Oil Stabilizer and I was considering putting it in my 1200. It says to mix it 20% of the total capasity. Would mixing about 25% hurt anytyhing, this would be basically just putting in 1 quart of the stuff since the bike takes allmost 4 quarts.

Any suggestions here? Should I just not use the stuff at all? Thanks.

I'm afraid of anything with the Lucas name on it!

I use lucas products in my pickup all the time and have only had good things from it.

I was just unsure if additives to the oil on the wing would harm anything.

Just pulling your leg, I was referring to the "Prince of Darkness", Lucas Electric.

Eric, I would highly recommend you NOT use ANY oil thickeners, or additives in your GoldWing.. First they are just not needed, second they can effect your cold start up engine oiling as the oil pump pick up screen in the GoldWings is a very fine mesh & that Lucas won't easily pass through that screen (could cause oil starvation or oil pump drive damage)..

It could also cause noisy valve lifters as the de-foaming chambers probably won't be able to remove all the air from that gooey Lucas..

You won't find any auto company or motorcycle company that will recommend any of those oil thickener products in their vehicles..

Amen Twisty....

I've seen several tests on the Lucas.

It entrains so much air, your oil ends up resembling something similar to foamy chocolate milk.

Bad, bad, bad......

i agree, do not use additives, but more importantly..........having been in the lube oil business for over thirty years, many seminars, a couple of in house on site tours of the oil a.p.i. testing labs, i am stronghly confinced of what the blenders would hammer at us.....the cost of testing/and a.p.i. testing and passing, one is totally destroying the properties of the highly costly process that insures the user of the finest possble mix and amount of additives.......in other words if one can suppass the knowledge of the experts in the field and standards set by the industry ....go ahead and and mix our own mystic batch.

I was having some pretty bad clutch problems and a rod knock and as a last resort, threw some Lucas in as they recommended.
At 1st, I thought it was working great, shifted a little easier, knock did not sound as bad. Few weeks and an engine flush later, I sit here wondering if it was the Lucas that sped up the clutch's demise or was it just because it was going out anyway due to some misuse.
I was warned on here not to use it, I have been so busy I have not had time to do any maintenance at all and thought I would flush it out in July when things are not so hectic....
Clutch started slipping real bad and the engine knock is as loud as it ever was.
I will stick to the advice garnered here and stay away from the lucas.
If anything, all it did was mask the problems.

My neighbour uses Lucas Oil Stab in his 1990 Police Special Harley. He seems to think it worthwhile. On a personal note I would not use it in my 80 1100. But I have used Lucas Top End lube and found no difference. I simply use a good quality correct grade oil and change it often, 5 x in 3000 miles, until I understood the engine and now have an expectation of what the 1100 can and should be able to do.
