I guess the ring was too heavy or something.. Gone for good. Not good.
Anyway, where is the best place to buy a new ignition switch?
I see they have one at partsnmore.com for $20. I'll probably do that.
I have Vetter bags and trunk. The Vetter site said to drill out the locks and take them to a locksmith. Did any of you do that? How much did it cost? I need 5 or 6 if you count the lock for the gas tank. Think that lock is the same as the others? Probably not. Probably "special" (more $$).
Any advice would be welcome, since it is Saturday night and I can't get to a locksmith till Monday.
I will have to hotwire the switch to get home from work. It looks to be surprisingly simple. A few spade connecters and some wirenuts. Doesn't look to 'secure'. Might as well have an on/off switch...

well i suggest you to get the locksmith to the bike to make a key from the gast tank keyhole, they know how to make a new key without even removing the keylocks. i guess you'll have to do the same for ur fairing pockets and saddle bags. good luck on hot wiring your bike and this just reminds to "get a damn copy of my key" cuz i dont have any hehehe.

ps: check on the yellow pages there should be a locksmith that works 24/7 im from mexico and u can call them any time if u lost them in some party at mid night they go and get ur car open :P

I know they do an emergency thing, but that costs A LOT, doesn't it?
I did just try the hotwire thing and I can start the bike fine and have all the lights and stuff. Looks kind of funny, but it will work for the next few days until I get a new one in. I'll check on just getting a key made.. might work fine for the ignition/gastank. Thanks!
Any other bright ideas?

In New England, I'd be willing to bet it's more like $70 or $80. I'll call and see what they say.

The receptionist said " I'm sorry, we do not make motorcycle keys."
I'll just stick with the hotwire.

Did anybody drill out or replace their vetter bag locks? How much each?

This very same thing happened to me when I had a Suzuki Tempter. The locksmith somehow made me a key without even removing the lock.

I have no idea if the Goldwings would be the same for a locksmith or not. If I remember right I think it cost me $50. This was about 6 years ago. Also, I trailered the bike, and took it to the locksmith, so I had no service call fee.

Hope this helps, and best of luck to you..

Brian, If you get that answer again"we don't make motorcycle keys" ask if they can refer you to a real locksmith...........
