I have made a set of turn signals from some 18 wheeler side marker lights trying to save a few watts for the driving lights. They come on but do not flash. Hoping that I need to use another flasher relay. This one could be bad (after 30 years... hmmmm... maybe...). My question is, do I get a heavy duty flasher or a normal replacement? The LED pulls less load....?

Thanks guys,

It could be bad after thirty years but more than likely, you just need to get an electronic flasher from an auto parts store. The old flasher requires a certain amount of current flow to make it work. The LED lights don't pull enough current.

That's what I had to do when I changed my turn signals out to LED's. Look on the package that the flasher comes in, it should say on there if it can be used with LED's. The mechanical style that are on our older bikes will not work the LED's.

LED's are like these new energy saving household lights, they save energy but have a few drawbacks. 1. you can't use them any where you have a dimmer, such as ceiling fans, they will burn your switch up. 2. Now this is the grabber.....If you break one the entire room is subject to Hazardous waste !!!!!!. ???????

But I'm also looking at changing my Wing over to LEDS......Buy a few at a time, these suckers are HIGH dollar....

I'm afraid you are confusing LEDs with flourescent bulbs which do exibit the above problems.

LEDs should be able to run on a dimmer just fine and have no toxic innards that I'm aware of. Please reference some online documentation if you are aware of problems.

You are right on one issue - they are more expensive.

Hmmm, the one I got didn't work. The original has two connection, the new one three. I will try to find the one posted here for the 1100. It should work on a 1000??
