Hi I have just bought a 1981 Honda GoldWing 1100 Interstate and was wondering what is the best engine oil to use in this machine?

Welcome to the best GW forumt there is! I believe a motorcycle oil 10-40 is the recomend. Remember you are also lubing your clutch so some additives are not recommended. as to what brand ? still lookin my self. Browse the tech area and youll see for yourself it is a touchy subject.

No Friction Modifiers! Bottom half of circle on back of can should be blank. However, may not be true in UK??
Welcome Here many buy Rotella T.

Any quality oil will be just fine as long as you change it, and the filter, regularly. You can't put enough miles on these old bikes for additive packages to make any difference.

i agree with bike buying premium synthetic brands is a total waste of time i change my oil every 2500 to 3000 miles those extended brands and synthetics work best in cars and pick ups that go 5 or 6 thousand miles between services

Be aware you will have no consensus on lubricating fluid, round rubber things and automobile round rubber things on this website. FWIW however:

I use Chevron DELO 400 15W40. I've used the stuff for years in all my vehicles including all my bikes. Good heavy based diesel oil, holds its viscosity well for a non synthetic. I ran the stuff for 80,000 miles on my 1500 with no problems, it was running, shifting and clutching like new when I sold it.
