my brake lights are intermittant. I have checked the relays, fuses and i replaced the brake/cruise switch on the handlebars. But it does not matter if i use the brake pedal or the handle bars to brake still the same. sometimes i hit the brakes and the lights come on a second or two later. where do i start . thanks guys ride safe.

It's a 2001, do you know if it had Wig Wag brake lights installed or have they always been normal as in "not-modified"?

If you have a brake light pulsing device on the bike, try taking it out of the circuit for a test.

If not a modulator causing the problem replace the brake light relay. 3rd relay from the right on the front row.

I suggest you hold the brake pedal or brake lever as to activate the brake lights. Then while holding one or the other open and close the trunk lid slightly so the wiring harnesses at the trunk lid hinges get some movement. Watch to see if brake lights come on and off. i.e. may be just a broken wire in the wiring harness at the bend.

That does happen and one of my riding buddies with an 03 had to solder in new wires after the trunk lid chopped through his.
