My saddlebag lens has been discolored, and I have "white circles" where each bulb goes.
I can get the entire 6 light housing and lens replacement at Cyclemax for less then the OEM lens alone, but was wondering if there was a paint or something else that would work.
Was also wondering, if anyone else has the 6 light set, and was curious about the look and fit.
Although I don't have the 1500, I had similar problems with an old Markland lightbar on my 1200A. The lens (14 of them) were weathered and the color was mostly faided, particularly on the rear lights.
I started out by sanding the outside of the lenses with wet/dry 1000 grit sandpaper. After getting them cleaned up and smoothed, I rubbed them down with Kit's Scratch Remover. This got them very shiny. After cleaning all the dirt and residue, I shot them on the inside with Candy Apple Red for model cars. They look great.
One concern was brought up to me;the heat generated by the wedge style bulbs might cause blistering or burning of the paint. I have since gone to LED bulb assemblies, so this should be no problem.
The stock rear lights were fine on my '85 LTD, but it came with a Markland wrap around light bar, which was rusted and had a few dings in it. All the red lenses were BADLY deteriorated, they were completely white and chalky. I just removed the whole light bar and tossed it, I like the way the bike looks much better without it. But I did find it strange that the stock lights looked almost new, while the Markland lenses were completely destroyed.
No first-hand experience, but I've read on this forum that the lenses you're looking at don't fit right and fade fast. You might be better off looking for used oem stuff. A lot of aftermarket stuff is Chinese and not worth much. Remember when Taiwanese stuff was junk? I'm relieved now when it's Taiwanese. Shows you how things are going.
