I am getting ready to flush the radiators on my 88 GL1500. I have owned a GL1800 & you are not supposed to use silicate based anti-freeze "Prestone" because it will ruin the water pump. My question, does this apply to the 1500? I have not seen any warnings for the 1500 like I see for the 1800. And is it OK to use the Prestone flush, this bike is pretty dirty, just want to clean it up.

Some of the Prestone is silicate free. Just look carefully at the bottle.

Especial on the 1500 it is important to use silicate free ! ( i have seen several pumps fail ).
I only use Honda coolant , but for sure you can find several others that is ok.

The winner is the man with most tools !

Go to your loacal Honda automobile dealer and get their Type 2 coolant. It is Silicate and Borat freee and costs a whole lot less than buying from a Honda motorcycle dealer.

I use the Universal Antifreeze - made for any makeor color antifreeze on the market

Buy it from any parts store or Wallie World which ever is cheaper. I buy one jug of Antifreeze and one jug of Distill water mix together to get -35 below zero whats left overI can use on myChevy - Ford - farm tractors.

been using it for years with no problems what so ever!

Why we like it so much is we can add it to any antifreeze and it will blend right in! works great when we're out in the field working on broke down units

we have well over 300 pieces of equipment on the road that's why we switched over to the Universal antifreeze
