I am getting ready to change oil in my '03 1800, with 45,000 miles. I have read in different places about using 100% synthetic oil, particularly ShellRotella T6 full synthetic. I understand this oilis only5w40. If I use it, will it have any adverse affects on the motor and transmission. I guess I am mainly worried about how it will affect the clutch.

Several do but, why use an oil weight that is not listed in the owners manual?????
Mobile 1 4T is a synthetic for motorcycles and is available in the weight recommended for the Wing.

Yes we can get that here. I've noticed that the price gap between fully synthetic and good quality dino oil is decreasing (that is the price of dino is increasing faster), and synthetic is probably better value for money than it was.

I have not herd of the Mobil 1 4T. I will have to investigate it. also I have not had time to check out all the info provided in the link from newday777. I checked out the link and was overwhelmed with the wealth of info. I will have to digest it as well as what I can find out out about the Mobil 1 4T.

Thanks for the information. Checking all this out will keep me busy.

Rotella T5 10/30 synthetic blend is the best oil I have tried in my 1800. It is the recommended weight, shifts better than with Amsoil or Rotella T6 and the price is not bad either.
