Getting locked out of my GL1800 trunk

Hi there
This is my first thread. Could not find proper answer on existing thread having a spécial problem with my bike. (2003 gl 1800, 79000 km)
Was at a dealer nearby last night to ask for help...but he and his mecanics had never heard of it: my back trunk and side ones all lock by themselves...after about 10 seconds after being unlocked with my key.
Tried different things but don't seem to find the solution to this.
Any ideas anyone?

Other question: looking to upgrade to more recent version. (To get heated grips and seat, integrated GPS and more???)
Is worth the price? My ride still looks good and is well equiped except for these accessory. Was told by the dealer that the more recent versions are better built. Your comments please.
thanks a lot.:)

Later versions are "better built"?
ummm, that is just sales talk. the guy is looking to better package his wallet.

I just bought a "brand new" 2002 model with 98,000 miles on it and it runs just like a brand new machine.

Unless you just have an innate desire to be the kid on the block with a brand new title, and willing to absorb a huge depreciation in value on your machine.... I would forget the sales pitch and continue to enjoy your bike.

The "new versions", ie, those built from 2012 and later have different plastics on them and look slightly different; but apart from that, nothing there that would entice me to buy a new one.

Heated grips you can purchase and install yourself and save about $30,000

Now, as to your trunk and side pockets locking after being unlocked, I don't have a clue.
But it has to have something to do with the keyfob locking package.

Wonder if this has anything to do with it? Does not mention unlocking with the key.
If the trunk opener unit is unlocked using the
transmitter but any of the lids is not opened
within 30 seconds, the trunk is locked
automatically.

When you open it with the key it should stay unlocked, that is a weird one. Unlock it with the FOB and open the trunk fir about 30 seconds and then shut it and see what happens.
Also is the FOB near when this happens? I'm wondering if there is a problem with the FOB and it is locking the trunk & bags.
Try putting in the house away from the bike and see what happens

Your dealer of course is trying to make a sale but the early 1800 wings, 2001 - 2004 did have a lot of problems. Frame cracking, over heating and here are a few more. 05 up saw a lot of these fixed but there are still recalls on some or rear brakes locking up. Some have had "ghost shifting", (tranny popping out of gear) but in 2013 I think Honda finally changed the gears and now this is O.K.
I had 2 1800 wings, an 02 and an 08. I had the frame re-weld completed on the 02 and had zero problems except for a rear tail light housing replaced on my 08, some bikes will have a lot of issues some will have a little.
The Honda factory GPS is not that great, very limited to what you can do. You would be better off going with an after market Garmin, updates are cheaper and easier to use.

I was going to say remove or replace the battery in key fob.
I have seen the fob NOT open the trunk, but not lock it by itself..
Worse case is to unplug the electric lock and always use it with key. I don't suggest "BUYING" a newer bike. Have seen the 1800 go over 300,000 miles if taken care of. If your happy with the bike, keep it...ESPECIALLY if it is PAID FOR!!!!

Should the white wire be grounded or not? Knowing what should it be, I Will definitely look into it.
Thanks Dave.
In the meanwhile, all I have to do is unlock the trunk with the key and the trunk keeps unlocked this way....
Strange...
Whenever I use the fob to unlock the trunk it locks itself within 10 seconds.
