That is just where it chose to sling the oil out. Same size but maybe not the same seal. 1500s turn the opposite direction and some seals are made for a particular rotation.
Maybe nothing for a long time. If you look inside the seal and there are small angled ridges it is directional, they are made to force the oil back toward the inner seal lip.
I would think the seal would leak from the bottom more likely. Then engine rotation could throw it in that direction?????? Call your local bearing house and tell them you need a bidirectional seal.(35X59X8)
Jeff, are your referring to the bolt for the ignition trigger? MY bad I went back and enlarged the photo to see that yes that bolt is circled . I dont have a 1200 with the belt cover off at this time but I believe that bolt tower is a block casting.
tapping on that screwdriver with a hammer may help, also try slightly tightening the broken bolt-
to bust the corrosion adhesive that has developed- then it should come right out
I'd spend 30 - 50 on the seal/s just to have them when the time comes.
