Verify 2002 GL1800 Recalls

Newb here and looking at a distant, low mileage 2002 GL1800 for sale. There are some pretty important recalls for this year/model and want verification they've been completed before I move forward. Can I simply run the VIN at any Honda dealer to verify this? I understand there are punch/paint marks to be applied after completion but it seems like anyone could do this with little effort.

Honda should have a record if the work was done. There may be a web site with the info but your local dealer would be a good place to start. They may be able to give good advice on what else to look for.

Also, once you have the vin, check it for liens, salvage title and such.

I did the V.I.N. check at the local Honda dealer a while back on a 2001 Gold Wing I was looking at. The bike was white, and I thought it was a strange color. Turned out the original user was the San Antonio police department. That explained some of the strange bolt holes. Also came back for all work completed by Honda on the bike. Quite a long list. I passed.

Thanks for the replies. I only know from some pics of the bike and it looks very nice but I want to make 100% sure I'm getting what I expect. There is some point where I have to leap but I'm not quite there yet. It's a 2003 with 13,600 miles, non-ABS for $7,900 so it is very attractive but almost seems too attractive. Must keep whits about me before I get too excited but it fits the bill. I give more weight to mileage than to age but there's got to be good reason for it going at this price. Am I nuts?

It's not that great of a price, but it's not bad. If you want the bike, go for it. Just make sure the title is clean. Dealer can do any recall work that hasn't been done.

1,000 miles a year probably isn't that uncommon in your area.

Here's a good place to see if your recalls have been done. I used it to verify my purchase, and it was spot on. Same with when the brake recall came up again.

Of course, you should run a vin search with something reputable, similar to CarFax. Get the vehicle ownership history, liens, accidents, etc.

And be aware of what to look for when you inspect the bike. This site has great resources on what to look for on all years of the Goldwings.

A great price would be $6000, the price they are asking is more than I paid for my bike two years ago

Location and time of year can make a gigantic difference in motorcycle pricing.

very true Ken.

this is January, and I bought my bike January 17th two years ago, it had been on their lot since June the previous year. guess they just wanted it gone. Russellville Honda, a nice dealership IMO.

Here are a couple of others I've come across that are within budget. Both are long distance and would have to be shipped so perhaps I'll sit tight and wait for something closer so I can inspect first hand. Prices here in the Northeast seem higher on average than these and at times, even ridiculous.
