Shifter pivot advice

Thanks to recomendation by aloha tom (thank you) i will be looking to add Shifter pivot. Lots of play in my shifter, occasionally jumps out of 4th, and a very tiny amount of leakage (very small)

Im hoping the pivot without seal replacement will suffice, because it souds like seal replacement could end up being a can of worms.

The question is..will the pivot stop the leak, or is it a waste of time to do without the seal a well? Thanks

Really doubt the-shifter assist will stop the leak, damage is already done now, seal replacement isn't rocket science, just need a thin screwdriver to puncture the seal and pop it out.

Love chasing white lines but they are difficult to catch.Hate drivers with no STOPLIGHTS.

Is there any more disassembly required besides what i will already be doing for the shifter? Where can i see/learn the procedure?

I have a 90 GL1500se and i discoverd today that my shifter seal is leaking also, is it necessary to take the exhaust manifold off on shifter side to change the seal? your help will be greatly appreciated
Jim

That depends on how much room you have to pull the seal and put the new one in. If you can get the shifter off, pop the old seal out with a small screw driver or punch."put it in btween the seal rubber and shaft" and pop a new seal in, " use a socket the same outside diam. as the seal" and an extention and drive the deal in. Be sure to cover the splines and coat the shaft with oil or grease.

For what it's worth the jumping out of fourth gear is an issue that will bot be cured by installing a shifter brace.

I think i could live with it because 1) its only happened 2 or 3 times and 2) im not sure if it didnt happen because i just didnt engage it fully (possibly due to the shifter slop)
