GL1500 Cluster Question

So I have read a while back that we as GL1500 Riders cannot completely change out the Cluster because a certain issue. I cannot remember what the issue. The reason I want to Change it out is just that I want to change it out. But In the past I had read but cannot seem to find the answer, when I do a search I keep getting posts in relation to changing the lights in the cluster. I've already done that and Have had no issues. Any factual help would be great.

In my efforts to rebuild my GL1500 I have started and operated the bike without the cluster all together. As well as operated the Reverse mechanism. Everything works in that Nature........Thank You in Advance

maybe cruise control issue? I know how/where cruise gets its signal changed to camshaft, around 94? was it tach driven before?
You can buy different color face plate and swap that...
Or use a junkyard- complete unit- with one from same year, to eliminate any connector changes or weirdness.

Maybe the answer is the speed sensor which is inside the cluster. It provides signal to the cruise control system, turn signal auto cancel unit, radio auto volume control and rear suspension system through LCD (needs confirmation).

Ok so i can do without the cruise control, The turn signals and auto cancel to the cruise control as i am using a Signal control Module. I dont have the stock radio on the bike anymore ..........But the rear suspension (Interesting) any Idea as to how it impacts the rear suspension. Or are you saying that if i left the LCD connected it would still work?

I figure that if thats the case that I could remove the LCD and set it up as a separate standalone unit with the temp and fuel gauge.

Thank you for your input I really do like the input on knowledge as this enable me to cover all my bases.

The LCD has nothing to do with the rear suspension except for the display. I guess you could install a pressure gauge or go with seat of the pants.

I see, perhaps it won't ground the relay if the bike is moving, easy enough to work around.
