Try a privacy screen (like the ones you can put on a computer) Should disperse the sunlight from glaring on the screen.

You can get a glarestomper for it which helps, and also make sure the "brightness' control is maxed.
Mine has a tendency to re-set itself to about 80%.

I use an inexpensive Garmin Nuvi 40 with a RAM mount and it works just fine. Very rarely can I not see the screen well enough because with the RAM mount you can easily adjust the reading angle (like you do with a rearview mirror in a car) and eliminate the worst of sun glare. Anyway...it's good enough to suit me.

If it isn't broken, some people like to fix it until it is.

My Nuvi 550 is pretty good in the direct sunlight even without the shade. The only thing that I've seen that was better in direct light was my old Garmin i5.Different type of screen.Actually better in the direct light.

A sun shade around the outer edges works pretty well.

You might want to check your sunglasses. Many of them are polarized and that will cause issues when looking at your GPS screen.
