Yes I have thought about rebuilding it. I have taken it apart, the bushings are fine, the bearings are fine and all the soldering looks fine, and the armature looks good, so I am not sure what the problems is. It is just not putting any juice out.
So I guess they have jerks on here too. huh. Some people ask to get a deal, I didn't ask for charity or something for free. Some people have things in their garage just taking up space that would be happy to sell at a good price and give a good deal to someone. There is no harm in asking and letting people know your situation, so if this bothers you please refrain from leaving rude comments to people, it shows your maturity level.
I wonder if the problem is in a regulator or something else? You may want to post your issue in the tech forum and see if someone can give you some help on what to look for.
If brushes, bearings etc are good, you may need to look at something else, and could possibly save more $$ instead of changing out the alternator and its not it. Have youtaken it to a local shop to have it tested, or are you going off of self testing?
Just throwing some thoughts out here:?
Never mind.......I found your post on the Tech section
WOOOOOOOOOOOOO I didnt mean to be rude and, I also plainly said that in my post. And your right there is no harm in what you ask and I reread my post and never found where I said there was.But I will let the moderators read what you just pm me and see what they think??????
Take it to the local starter/alt. shop nearest you. They can usually be fixed by local guys even if they have to order parts. I had one fixed a couple of years ago for about $50. It had a short in the armature and the guy had an extra laying around. Just a Denso alternator. Sometimes the coating on the wire gets old and shorts from all the heating and cooling cycles.
If you're still looking I've got an '88 alternator in great shape that I replaced with a Compufire when I added heated clothing, driving lights and a trailer. I'll ship it to you for $65 if you want it.
