STANLW, Mice = eaten wires. Actually, the pee dissolved the aluminum Clarion radio parts.

Fortunately I have not found any eaten wires, but 6 years of mouse pee has done a number on a lot of the chrome.

Wow. . .So at a loss for words as far as what you've accomplished here.
I've got an 83 1100 Interstate that I rode for the first time last season.  I decided to take her apart this winter to clean her up a bit, but (OMG) no where NEAR to the extent you have gone, Ginsco.
I took off the plastics and pretty much just wiped them down with a cleaner and touched up the emblems with a sharpie.  The engine guard and trunk/saddle bag pipes were taken off and polished with a wire brush and some elbow grease. Swapped out the timing belt and valve covers with ones that I had been given by another member of this site (thanks again, lieutenant) and pretty much just wiped down the frame with soap and water.  I'll be posting pics when I get her all back together, but I have to tell ya how impressed I am with what you've done with yours...
I hope you get to finish soon and can't wait to see the final pics...Ride safe, my friends!

Thanks for the compliments. Definately post up some pics, would love to see it.

This thing is so close to being done , it just seems like I cant get the time to finish it LOL. I dont want to post pics of the bike though until its finished.

Right now Im in the process of refinishing the emlbems. I have been taking pics step by step and will post them all when they are finished at the begining of this week.

So far they are turning out pretty good. :action:

Interesting project.......Thought I'd mention

I happen to have an extra set of extremely nice muffler and exhaust pipes if you are interested. The left side has no battery acid marks.

I'd like $250 for both sets plus the shipping at cost........

I was going to list them on Ebay come spring and can send you pictures if interested.

Take Care

mrclean,
If Ginsco doesn't take them, I wouldn't mind a picture or two (to help me convince the Mrs. to let me try to buy them).
Again, ONLY if Ginsco says he isn't interested....This is HIS thread and project.  He's got first dibs...LOL

Hi fellas,

MrClean thank you for the offer, but I was able to get a really nice set off Ebay a while back.

Feel free to post the pics in this thread for  RckRagman  if you like.
Also if Rick doesnt take them you might want to post them in the FOR SALE section of this forum before you put them on Ebay. There are usaly alot of folks here looking for a good exhaust.

:claps:Ginsco, I have to say thank you for the effort, pictures and encouragement you have given in this thread.  Also to all the other wingers who have asked questions and shared their own stories.  I have a couple of 1100's that I started to rebuild, and became discouraged when "things" refused to come together.  Now I have the courage to get back at it, so thank you for that.  I will keep re-reading your posts, take my time and, learning.  Gavin

Rick

I have pictures of the mufflers from storage, also just listed them on ebay

if you are interested and depending where you live I'll give you a good discounted deal if you are interested.........Ebay item # 180806650329

the down side to the pipes are cosmetic discoloration to the chrome

the up side is OEM low milage, no dents, minimal oxidation to the underside and great strength integrety of the metal all the way through 100%

Functionally these pips are excellent and would probably last more than our lifetime.

Thanks for you interest

Hi Gavin,

Welcome to the forum !

I know all to well how easy it can be to get discouraged with a project. Im really glad this thread helped rekindle your desire to get your projects finished. That really makes me feel good that I may have helped in some small way. If you have any questions on how I did something feel free to ask and I will explain to the best of my ability.

Good luck with the projects and post some pictures if you can.

Scott

Ginsco, I have been so motivated by your pictures that I decided to attempt a restore of my 1983 interstate. I have posted pictures of my progress so far in the gallery. Just hope I can get this thing back together!

Ginsco I would first like to say great job!!! You're doing an amazing job and have taught me so much. I am now repainting my 81 goldwing black and red with white pin stripes.Without your thread I would of been lost!!! Hope my bike turns out as good as yours is. Also I was thinking of getting bugs bunny airbrushed onto the back of the luggage rack or on the back of the saddlebags. Got any tips? Thanks :)

Welcome to the forum neighbor ! What kind of tips are you looking for ? I would be glad to try and help. I not crazy about white pinsriping between the red and black. Just my opinion here . The white will really stick out and over power the red and black. . I personally like the stripes to be more subtle. Just my taste though. Everyone is different.

"Measuring on the back side of the center stand bracket I came up with a reading of 85 degrees. Thats where I welded it."

Is that from the left side or the right side? Does it angle towards the front or the rear? Asking because I am literally at the point of welding mine in place Sitting here with welder in hand.

Hmm...it's got to angle towards the front...right?
