Ginsco, I just picked up a 82 GL1100 right before Christmas. It hasn't ran in about 5 years according to the previous owner. I wasn't too sure how far I was going to take the tear down to restore it, but after reading this thread I am inspired! I am just starting, and I am almost ready to pull the motor. I had a couple of questions. Are you going to do anything to the fuel tank? You sand blasted the frame and then how did you paint it? Is that from a spray can or do you have a more elaborate setup? I started a build thread on another forum if you are interested: http://ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=31212 I am definitely bookmarking this thread! Great work!

Overide wrote: Ginsco, Hi Overide, Congrats on your new bike. Im not sure of your question on the tank. If your asking if Im going to coat the inside with Kreem or any other product ....No After I sand blasted it I sprayed an epoxy based primer/sealer on it and the sprayed it with a two part urethane top coat out of a spray gun. I would not spray a frame out of a rattle can and hope for good results for the long term. If you have any questions please ask, just try to be more specific. I will answer to the best of my ability.

Ginsco, What a great job. This is truly inspiring for all of us who enjoy saving old machinery. You will be rewarded with a fine like new motor cycle. I have owned my '81 GL1100 since '82. I truly believe these bike cannot be worn out. It is just a matter of doing the maintenance. Even if the required maintenance is to this extreme. I will keep tracking this thread it is great. Absolutely great job on this. I spent 5 months restoring an '83I that sat in a garage for 15 years and it was no where near as bad in shape as your bike was. Beautiful job. Where did you get the seat work done? Could you post some pixs of it? I need to replace mine and that is exactly what I would like to do with mine. What type of arm rest are those, do you know? Thanks and again, great job. dvc
