This has been a long term project I started about a year after moving to TN from Hawaii.
Couldn't find a good job & my brain was going mushy.
I owned a TriHawk which was made in CA & rented in Hawaii.
Found a bad one in the junk yard & restored it.
It was really fun to drive, but couldn't bring it with me.

                        1985 TRI-HAWK

So I started with that idea but with a larger engine ( SPEED )
The TriHawk had an air cooled French engine, so I went with the best keep secret & used a Subaru.
Found a Subaru XT6 in the junk yard which they had already sold one of the rear axle & hub.
Bought the whole thing for $500.00 & trailer it home.
OK, that's the back ground so now it's to the down & dirty!:lash:
Will be posting pictures I have from the beginning.

The XT6 is home. June 2005

The fun part was getting it off the trailer with no back wheel.

Starting the strip it down.
1st I pressure washed the front!!!!!!

That cyl. next to the wiper motor is Elec Steering, or drive by wire back in '88!
Note also the A/C pump. Wait to see what I do with the space.
Both items will not be used in this project.
The engine is a FI 2.7, 6 cyl w/ auto trans. Trans not used.
This thing even had a trip computer on the dash, & AM/FM/Cass w/ EQ

More to come about every other day so you won't get dizzy.

The is what it will come up as.

With the front of the car body cut off, the engine, trans & complete front end is ready to come out into a brave new world.

The complete rear end is out & dirty from the mud in the junk yard.
Notice the disc brake in the rear & this is back in '88!

Rear axle has been pressured washed.

Hey, still a Hawaiian boy at heart.
Didn't have shoes when I move here & now as a Hillbilly, still don't need no sticky shoes.
It does get cold toes in the winter.:ROFL::ROFL:

Thought of putting a suby in the GL1500, but they insure by CC size & would have cost almost 3 times more.

Garage floor has a pushed up crack in it, so had to build a level platform to build on.

Starting to lay out the parts & figure out a wheel base.

Figuring out the gauges & seating. 2X4's are very handy.

Got the 5 speed trans.
Next is to shorten the shifter linkage.

Starting to figure out how to build & weld up the front section of the frame to mount the engine, trans & A-Arms.

Misc. parts from the Auto Trans not needed any longer.

Auto Trans all cleaned up & ready to trade for a Turbo 5 speed Trans.

Building the roll bar mounted inside the dash area.
Used welding corners for the curves.

Working on the front frame & setting up the upper & lower A-arm.
The A-arms came off a Quad front end, I think a Yamaha.
Will be using the lower ball joint upper & lower from the Subaru.

Here are the machined parts I made for the front end.
New bushing mounts for the modified upper & lower A-arms.
New mount to install a Subaru ball joint into the front spindle.

Another picture of building the front frame.
Pictures are out of order, so have a hard time in posting them.

OK, front is coming along , so time to figure out the rear.
Got the seating figured out & the Blue Spitfire gas tank (10 gals).
So now to center the rear wheel & how to mount it.

I cut the rear arm so I would get a straight bounds.
Don't need caster or camber on the rear.
Made mounting brackets for the bushing.
Cut & drilled a 3/16" plate with slotted holes for adjustment.
Bolt the rear arm down & centered it in the frame.

Had a shop bend up a 1/4" plate to a "U" to fit the rear plate & welded the unit together.
Picked up a tubing from the toy store (HF) & starting joining the front to the back.
Used 2" tubing for most of the framing.
1st tine using a tube bender & building a tube frame.
You have to cup all the tubing to fit right in order to weld them up.

The wood under the frame is the the riding height.
Ran a tube up the the front rad. support.

Replaced the rear stock shock with an adjustable coil over shock.
