Hello to all, any info out there on rebuilding rear air shocks on a GL100S? Mine is leaking oil and presume it is a seal. Are parts available/ and where can they be located? Thanks, Joe Last edited on Thu Feb 2nd, 2012 05:19 pm by Jfournier |

Hey Joe, Welcome to the forum! A shop manual will tell you how. The HowTo below is prolly more than you need as it also pulls the shack apart to replace the springs too. It's for a GL1200, but should also apply to a 1100. http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/forum9/14189.html Remember, after you remove the circlip, put a screwdriver thru the lower eye, wrap the shock in towels and put the bundle in a bucket before using pressure to pop the seal out. And I do mean POP! You may wana have an extra set of shorts handy.

Those are little. more than you need basic steps: remove shock from bike remove air lines..bleed air off first drain oil at least some of it remove boot..pull it off the bottom of the shock..dipping it in a pot of hot water will help loosen it up and make it more pliable. remove circle clip install shrader valve in the top of the shock where air line was. pump up with air..towel over the seal so when it pops you control it. remove all the stuff in there..backing plate, and three more things..clean them up (note the order they came out in) and the tube. fill with oil per manual 12.5 oz.??.. shrader valve still in place replace all and the new seal..you must drive that in with a piece of PVC or pipe that matches the diameter of the seal. Install circle clip and boot..air lines your done.back on the bike I think I got it all in there. There's a nice write up on the NGW forum "Shop Talk". http://www.ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20899 I've bought parts for them on Bike Bandit and Crescent Moon. Hello to all! Am working on rebuild of 1983 GL1100 carbs. I have some info but it is visually unclear and some of the dimensions are contradictory. First the float level adjustment procedure does not clearly show where to actually measure from or to. Second the pilot screw "initial turns out", count is arbitrary, one source shows 1 1/4 while another shows 3 turns out. Can anyone clarify and is there a good way to adjust as it does not look easy. Thanks again, Joe Last edited on Thu Feb 9th, 2012 12:11 pm by Jfournier |

Welcome back Joe! Try a site search (look on the right side of the forum screen) to search for threads with the keywords you are interested in. If that doesn't produce answers, start a new post with your question as the subject. You're more likely to catch the eye of a carb guru. Or you could go to Raddek (sp?) site where you can get parts and tutorials on the early GW carbs. EDIT: Randakk - I knew I spelled it wrong! Here is his site. He's also a member here. http://www.randakk.com/ Last edited on Thu Feb 9th, 2012 01:04 pm by OldSchool_IsCool ____________________ '74 CB750 K4 '77 CB550 K3 '82 CM250C '82 GL1100 Interstate w/ Auburn Gemini (doublewide) Sidecar "Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?" Thanks to all!! After the rebuild of the carbs and change out of two suspect plugs the GL1100 iis again ready for flight. After all I went through to resolve the performance,(rough running) issue I really think it may have been 1 plug. I may never know for sure as I did the carb rebuild and plug change at the same time. Unfortunately I din't keep the suspect plug.I had discounted the plugs as they only had 200 miles on them. (NGK's) Maybe the moral of the story is.....I don't know??? Joe Next time, when you have a question different that the first post(this is on GL1100 rear shocks, not carbs) start a new topic rather than tagging on another post like this as it causes confusion to those who do a search later down the line. Good that you got it going. Keep warm.
