After market brake lever not making contact with the cruise stop and brake light activate switches,tried to buy OEM lever part number 53175MN5006 at Honda shop and was told Honda not making them anymore,then tried Ebay nothing there for OEM 1989 Brake Lever,,,,,,any suggestions ?

Did you try putting a layer or 2 of tape on the lever where it hits the switches? That sometimes works.

Hi John,

It is a relatively common problem. Switches start to wear out... metal lever gets indents in it but it is fixable. This is what I did...

I took of the lever, cleaned it up with a degreaser where the switches comes in contact with the lever and then added a small, thin, firm piece of metal to the leaver with good quality 3M two face FOAM tape. Foam tape is the key. It has give to the working switches.

Here is what mine looks like. Never had a problem with it since.

I replaced the $15 switches and then added a thin layer of JB Weld and a strip of fiberglass PCB to get the thing to fit right.

If you have the helmet holder aftermarket pivot posts, throw those away and get the Honda OEM pivot bolts, instead.
