  Being a certified aircraft mechanic, and working for a major airline, I can assure you thats not the way we trouble shoot stuff ! If it was a whole lot of people could die !....Dont be so hard on us mechanics...:?

Talking of the car/truck/M/C Mechs. I know that aircraft is a whole nuther ball o wax. You are watched like hawks by the FEDs. Maybe if the consumer end was watched as closely  as you are, they would do their job right too. Then we wouldn't be saying things like this bro. And I think you know what I meant.

My apologies if it sounded like I was knocking mechanics. That wasnt my intention. Just stating that today, its real easy to find a honda mechanic whose heart isnt in his work. Of course its not true across the board. Please, no offense.

So, Ive spent a lot of time looking across this board and one thing I see a lot of is people mentioning this knocking sound at low rpms and made me realize that maybe, I wasnt explaining the problem correctly. See, I cant get the idle on my bike low because it wants to die out somewhere under 1700 hundred rpms. as it wants to die, it makes a knocking sound but runs really nice at higher rpms. As I have read across many other posts and I found this to be a recurring theme especially with the gl1100. I see the the common issue seems to be clogged idle passages which I know someone even mentioned here and, I can understand why some pipes would be running much higher temp then others. Anyway, it looks more and more like the best thing to do is remove the carbs and clean out the idle passages. I have a carb sync kit but had to order new dampening adjustment valves which I will hopefully receive today. I will do a sync before pulling the carbs just for grins. I know the seafoam helped some but I dont think it curred the problem entirely. all things point to pulling the carbs and since its winter and I want to learn more about my bike anyway Ill take that route. I mean, I cant be any worse of for doing it right? Thanks again everyone. Anyone recommend any good resources for pulling and cleaning?

Go to this link and look at post #3.  There is a link to a pdf file there that has a good description with pictures of how to overhaul the 1100 carbs.
