I guess the loud pipe idea has been taken up by half of the brain dead cagers with their loud sound systems that can be heard at a quarter mile away. They should be real safe. Nothing like living in an area with a bunch of open pipe bikes and 200db rap blasting out of half the cars.

I have Jardines and to me they are two load. You can't listen to the radio on the highway at 65 mph. Personally, I like the stock pipes but they do rust out eventually.

Do you have to re jet the carbs or make any mods to the bike to put on the jardines? Got any idea on a link or something to hear them?

You can make a lot of changes to the exhaust system on a four cylinder 'Wing without causing much difference in the fuel mixture. Going to a more open exhaust won't hurt it.

That was something I wanted to do to my Goldwing as well. I wanted to be able to hear the engine a bit. but oddly enough I got on a mission to quiet down my harley exhaust. I ended up buying some pipes with quiet baffles from Fuel Moto. Sounds nice now with a nice engine purr without being obnoxious and loud. I realize you want to stay stock but maybe there would be the perfect custom pipes for you. The only problem with restricting the airflow through the exhause for me was a decrease in power on the dyno but nothing I could really feel while riding. I was told that changing the mufflers would not likely alter the fuel map I use but that did not turn out to be true. Going from a wide open muffler (Rineharts) to the Jackpots from Fuel Moto caused me to have to put the bike on a dyno to get the map working properly. If you get the sound you are looking for, see if you can record it and post it. I'd like to hear your bike when you are done.

Personally, I like the quiet ride. I can fully understand the reasoning behind the "Loud pipes save lives" theory, but wouldn't want to deal with the constant headaches or hearing loss... That said, I just need to share something I saw on another member's signature line when looking up another issue...Again, I'm not trying to start a feud about whether or not loud pipes are better or quiet is better, I just thought this was a funny line... "If loud pipes save lives, then why are so many people killed by trains?"

I put sporster mufflers on my 1100. really nice sound much better sound than the longer glide ones i put on my 1000. Before I mounted the sportsters on the 1100 I messed around with the stock mufflers just to see what would happen, I removed the baffles and eventually cut the back end right off. The bike sounded crappy in all these diffrent configurations. But it was kinda loud allright Wilf

machineman2101 , the bike is okay without re-jetting. They are loud like a Harley. I have a brand new set too. My friend had a set on his GL1100 and they were more quiet. So, I say WTF?

Just start it up often in the winter months, and let it run for 5 minutes before shutting off. gumbyred

I let thermostats cycle a few times before I shut 'em down. I can see it by the gauges. Everything gets good and hot that way. Lets the heat soak in real good. Sometimes I'll block 'em up and throttle-lock high gear just above idle for a while to circulate all the juices.

If loud pipes really save lives imagine what learning how to ride could do for you.
