After rereading some of the first posts I see the problem was a leaky pump with a good diaphram. The leak might actually be repaired by putting in an o-ring that just clears the inside circumference of the housing screws. On mine, one of the two valves in the top of  the pump might be the problem to look at for low pressure or volume if the diaphram looks good. One is made out of a hard plastic in mine which probably dosen't seal as well as I think it should. Although this might be the way mother controls the pressure. (IE letting it bypass the valve) I often thought of putting a flat "rubber" washer on instead. Just never actually did it. I know this adds more problems to the equation but all things must be concidered when fixing a problem.

Viton Rubber! Thanks Keystone. I need to eat more fish. Couldn't remember the name of the material. McMaster-Carr was our source for oddball sizes. Napa carried more common sizes. I think I bought some from Autozone too. These post should save our members some money. If you put your mind to it, you can almost rebuild anything. I'm still working on a poopless dog.:grinner:

Everybody needs one! Less time scoopin', more time scootin'.

I guess that when it comes to repairing stuff like fuel pumps, etc., I take it as some sort of challenge. Can I figure this out? Can I fabricate the parts myself? Can I improve on the design? I guess I'm some sort of whacko, because I get pleasure out of it. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Sometimes I save money, sometimes I lose money. It does make you damn proud when you do something right.

That's it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:clapper::clapper::clapper::clapper::clapper:Because when it comes down to it, it usually cost me more to make than to buy it off the shelf.

Sometimes I spend more money than it would have cost to buy the part in the first place, but hey, it's more fun to try!

If your hell bent on fixing the existing one you might try AMERICAN PACKING AND GASKET on Armour Dr. in Houston (edge of downtown) They might have something and give some info as well.

Ok, I tried just a regular can of latex paint, white I think. That didn't work. The gas ate it right off. Maybe I should have tried the 'red'....................;)

I just remembered something that might help. a while back at the job I was working at ,we had to wear these chemical proof rubber boots. they looked like the old style galoshes. if theres a refinerery or chemical plant any where you are you might be able to grab one. they usually  give the guys a new pair every day so theres bound to be some laying around.a piece of the sides that cover the leg would probably do the trick and gas wont  affect them.

Ok, here we go again. I did a little research on the www and read up on several materials that are impervious gas and oil products. What I found was the 'niton rubber' material (couldn't locate any locally) and neoprene coatings.

So I took  Big Cahuna advise and went looking for some boots or gloves that were neoprene coated. I found some gloves at my local ACE hardware store. I cut a patch and replaced the old diaphragm with the neoprene and put it on my bike. I rode it around awhile (very close to home) and it worked find. The vote is not in yet but I will keep checking the 'patch' to see how it is holding up and report back. So far so good. Here are some pic. :

Wow! 43 heads are better than one. Teach, you should have no problem using the glove material. Hats off to Big Cahuna.:clapper: I would say he deserves mana, but I don't know what that is.

24 hours out and so far so good. I took the fuel pump off the bike and looked at it. No distortion and no melting. It still looks and works well. We'll see. If not I have a new one on the way for $68.50.
