Hi folks. We need a volunteer to rewrite the "Buying a Used GL1000" article as Randall withdrew his one. It's part of this series;

http://www.goldwingfacts.com/usedgoldwing.htm

Anyone interested in doing this please send me a PM. I'm not too well clued-up on the GL1000 to do this myself. We have a few members here who would be well able to do this and I look forward to hearing from you. If more than one member wants to do the article, they could even get together on it. All credit for the article will be given to the author/s.

Thanks for your input in advance. :)

I have a suggestion that could get this done before we get riding, (April in these parts).

How about a committee to write the article, much like designing a bumblebee?

I did technical writing as part of my job for 30+ years, but I haven't had intimate contact with a GL1000 since about 1985.

So, here's my suggestion. All those folks out there who know GL1000's could send me suggestions/paragraphs/thoughts on what should go in the article. I would collate them and put it all together in readable form.

If people are interested in doing this, simply start sending me stuff. I would prefer to get it by regular email outside of the forum, makes it easier to handle. My email address is in my profile.

Every single contributor, no matter how small, will get listed in acknowledgments at the end. Before we get to that point I would plan to send out the article to all contributors who wish to be involved with editing/correcting.

If you want to be part of the proof reading team as well, let me know when you send stuff.

Anyone thinks this is a bad idea,

"Speak now or forever hold your peace".

I think this is an excellent idea. A great opportunity for those with specific knowledge of the 1000s to share, without the pressure of writing it all themselves.

Thanks English Bob for volunteering your technical writing skills for this, I'm sure it will turn out to be a nice article.:clapper:

I think that this is ideal..

everyone can have their say .. and no one person can claim it as his/her own

In fact, it sounds so good to me, I'd suggest that all of the future additions (maybe even re-write the olds ones) become committee projects....

Certainly there are many on this forum that know them inside and out. I would, however, suggest that Axelwik would be a good one for knowledge of the 1k!

I know little about the topic but have a suggestion.

My thoughts are on a hit list after purchase, must do for piece of mind after the purchase of a 30+ year old bike.

I would also suggest more than a paragraph on a FLOOD bike what to look for before purchase.

It would seem how to look for FLOOD damage information is more important now than ever before :baffled: on any purchase

This is a good idea as it gets some of the members involved in the shaping of the site as well as forum.

I see no reason why an 'after purchase hit list' and flood damage indicators couldn't be worked in to the article.

Sure I can write something, but I think English Bob's idea is a good one.

Bob, I'll send you an email.

I want to emphasize something about this GL1000 project.

It is not necessary for people to sit down and spend time wracking their brains to produce a whole long list of points all at once.

If, for example, JoeBlow suddenly thinks it would be good to mention that the snapple grommets perish after a few years, then an email on just that would be fine. Then a week or so later he remembers that there should be a comment about long term weakening of the splundiferous carbonator, well, an email on just that can go in the mix too.

Hope this makes sense.  :?

Here are some topics I thought might be good to include but I don't know the answers for the questions...:D:D  Do any of you?

Every year Honda changed things on the 70's some were improvements other things not so much..so I think it would be good to include the positive and negative features of each year. This would impact mostly horsepower and torque, carb changes etc.

Carb numbers per year are different an accounting would be nice so you know if you are getting an original bike or not.

Any "known" issues with each year should be a section also.

The usual things to look for which is fairly consistent, weep hole drips, fork seals leaking, rusty gas tank, the yellow wires, etc. would be nice too.

Maybe a fact page on how many were made each year and in what colors and which seem to be the more sought after ones?

What changed from year to year cosmetically?

How's that for a start?

English Bob said to email him if you have an answer to any/all of these Q's

I thought it might be a good idea for you to post here when you receive something so that topic can be put aside and so you do not get lots of emails on the same thing and we don't do the work of researching a topic if you have it covered.  You decide when you thing you have it covered.  Or post it here so others can add to or verify/correct any mistakes???  Just a thought

That's a point RB, but here is my reasoning.

I expect to get repetition of a lot of the details, to me, the more a particular topic comes up, the more significant it is likely to be.

This is just a statistical thing, if 10 people mention degronificators and only one mentions lithiantinides, it is probable that degronificators are more important than lithiantinides. This can be reflected in the final write up.

I also want to minimize posting stuff over and over. I am collecting the info' in a dedicated folder, if anyone really wants to see all the raw info' I will happily send it to them. At the moment it is not very big, I expect (hope) it will get a lot bigger.

I wondered that myself as I've been abroad for a while with little internet acess. Found the answer here; http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/forum4/38259.html

It's a good opportunity now for some members to input into the article.
