Oregonwinger asked about Vic. He posted to the Backyard Goldwinger's Bar and Grille sometime today. Looks like he's been busy moderating that site and making progress on developing EFI for the four cylinder Wings. I asked him to check in and let us know what's going on so maybe he will. Hope Gambler does show up again so we can get an update on how the nearly new machine is working for him!

;)Well, I'm still around, just really swamped with work and getting ready for the holidays. The wing is running fine, no problems to speak of other than the one front rotor has some warpage, I can feel it when I use the front brake. I haven't had time to add any pics or a breakdown of what I spent(although I keep track in quicken).

I had some projects around the house to do and I usualy go after things full on to the exclusion of all else.

I have synced the carbs once, but feel they need doing again. Fuel economy is not great but in the range (I think) of what others have posted(for the speeds I run). I like the metezlers, they seem to wear like iron. I will be doing more when the holidays have passed. I am still learning to shift the wing without clunking or gnashing of teeth(mine or the bike ;) ), and still learning to stop her with more rear brake than I am used too. I still ride my kawi, and have to remember the differences when braking.

I found a tail light for the left bag on ebay and it's on the way here(mine is cracked) so thats next. I am still on the fence about the seat, comfortable enough for me, and she who tickles my fancy likes it much better than the kawi. However it's torn up pretty bad, and my frankenstienesce sewing job detracts from the bike.

This is a great site, and resource for the wing owner and I hope to contribute more in the future.

When will us west coasters get together for a beer?:dude:

As well, somebody here had a seat for a 1200 to give away. Can't find it now.

Sure would be great to do another one of those outings.  We hada blast at the last one. Hopefully, in May, or so.

What color seat do you need?  I have a OEM 85 LTD brown, not perfect, but actually pretty decent. The PO loved it, he is 6-3, I'm 6-3, and it didn't fit me, so got a Saddleman.  That thing was really hard to break-in, but good, now.  Hadn't thot about selling it, but might think on it

Okay folks. As promised (although a little late), I've put the teardown article on the Bikers Workshop part of the site, on this page;

http://www.goldwingfacts.com/1200stripdown.htm

It will be a handy bookmark for you as I tend to leave these articles up permanently.

I don't know Gamblers name, so I just put Gambler as the author.

Gambler, I have a stock seat for a 1200. It's wineberry. The cover is real good. No rips that I know of,but the foam is poop. After about 20min. your sitting on the seat pan. It's yours for the cost of shipping if you want. I just ordered the JC Whitney $150.00 seat cover kit. It's very nice, made by Saddleman, and is fairly cheap. I just couldn't see spending big dollars on a seat for a bike this old.Maybe if it was an 1800. Let me know if your interested. I'll be away till after the new year, so please excuse any delay in reply. George.

IF Gambler does not want it I do. I have an air seat on mine and it is to tall for my liking and i want to try a stock seat.

time flies. Hi everybody.

just want to report on some things that I left un said till I had some miles on the bike.

1. the 4th gear wear, I was worried that the shift dogs would slip under load and pop out of 4th gear.  trans shifts fine, fourth gear works fine even two up.

2. no alternator whine or noise so I think my way of checking the backlash was ok.

3. paint is holding up ok, some flaking on the engine, but the overall job looks good.

4. trunk repairs, trunk is holding up fine on the pothole infested roads around here.

5. fork seals are weeping, I think i overfilled the forks and will soon drain and refill to see if this fixes the problem.

6. the brake pads I got as a set for all three brakes from an online vender, 19.95 a set. I think I went too cheap there, I may upgrade to see if it improves the stopping distance.

sorry I didn't reply to this, not trying to be rude. I must have overlooked it.  I don't need the seat but thanks for the kind offer, I think I will ride down to corbin and get an estimate just for fun.( they're very close, like 50 miles away)

Hey Gambler, glad to see you back!:waving: You caused me to spend a lot of time running through your whole epic again, I saw your new post and just had to go back through the restoration. Looking good. Wish I was as fast as you, the 1100 project is about 80% done but other things got in the way and slowed it down. Next month I hope to get back working on it.

I'm not sure if I should thank you as an inspiration of be mad at you for causing me to get back into the fix up mode!:cheeky1: Sure was a good series of postings.

And it is being referenced on many an occasion.  Like the "clunk" issue; using a pic which Gambler took and Exavid enhanced.

you know you love it, much more fun to rescue something from the trash heap and restore it than to just consume more new stuff.:D
