Thanks for that info.....I would be lying if I said I fully understood it When it is written out like that it is understandable. What would be the risk or benafit of not using the balast at all if using stock coils?

When I talked to Dyna last year to discuss ballast resistor requirements I got the impression that running stock coils without a resistor there was a risk in burning out the Dyna sending unit.
Some also believe that the coils can be damaged, but I'm not so sure about that now.
That said I ran a couple days like this before I sorted out what ballast to buy. You can buy an automotive type 1.2 ohm resistor at any auto parts store that will bolt right in. I can supply parts numbers if you need them.

nomados is absolutely correct...the Dyan S will almost certainly be ruined without the ballast on even stock coils. At least 3ohms total between the coils and extra ballast is required. I burned one that way a few years ago.Last edited on Sun Apr 20th, 2008 01:29 pm by 77GL1

Welcome to the forum larryjoe. To answer your question, no the gl1200 has a totally different ignition system. And the se-i may be different from a normal 1200, fuel injected. I don't know enough about it to comment other than that. You might want to start a new thread. You'll get a lot of help here if you ask.
Oops, nevermind, just saw your thread... hope you get it sorted.
