Hey gang,

I installed the aux mod several weeks ago, had screeching feedback into my headset during CB transmit.  Also had an iPod noise that was coming from the accessory charger to the iPod so I installed a noise suppressor from the iPod stereo plug and that seems to have fixed both issues.  :)  Still not sure I have found all my issues though.

Now I have a buzzing in the headsets whether the radio is set to headsets or speakers, iPod or Radio, Intercom on or off.  Even with the radio completely off, the buzz remains.  It does not change with speed or volume.

OK, there are 4 items that plug into the front of the radio harness.  Antenna, a small plug, a medium plug and a large plug.  I can make the buzz go away if I unplug the medium size plug (next to the large plug) that goes into the front of the radio.

Question, do I need another noise filter?  If so where?  Do I have something wrong with the aux mod that I need to chase down?
Any suggestions?  Getting desperate here. :jumper:

Hopefully one of the people involved in writing the mods to the radio will see this and step up to help with the problem.

This is one of the reasons I advocate the wired-in FM modulator option, instead.

Hey gang,

OK, the buzzing is gone now that I have re-assembled everything, maybe it was a bad ground/connection somewhere but now the CB squeal is back.  If I can't figure this out, I'm going back to the wired FM Transmitter

Bummer

It sounds like you still have a bad ground. Is the squeal all the time or just during transmission. If it's during transmission I would guess the mic mic might be the cause. I had the same problem after I installed new J&M  mic and head set, but only with the radio.

Hey gang,

I reversed out the audio mod and installed the AudioVox Wired FM Transmitter and everything is back to normal.  CB works without squeal, no radio buzz but the quality and volume is also diminished back to pre mod days.  :?  I'll live with it.

The one thing left to figure out is the loud open mic noise when the intercom is turned on.  I had it before the audio mod and zero open mic noise with the mod but too many other issues to keep the mod and my wife only rides about 5% of the time.

Any suggestions for the open mic noise?

Also, my reversing out the audio mod in no way should reflect negatively on Bob Anderson's work, I am sure it's just fine in most cases, for me, I was tired of dealing with it and tearing the thing apart looking for the issue.  Could have been a bad relay or who knows what.

Thanks again to everyone for all the help

Hey Rick........the open Mic noise........will always be there. Not much you can do. I is worse depending on if you wear a full or 3/4 helmet, but does pick up a lot of noise.
I just turn mine off....turn it on if I want to talk to Sandy.....and most definitely turn if off and play deaf if you see a roadside garage sale.  Kit

The squeal on CB transmit is most likely RF output from the CB bleeding into the mic circuit of the intercom somewhere - which then gets transmitted, which bleeds into the mic circuit, etc...which is why it's feedback, hence the squeal. I know you've reversed out the mod, but if you do try it again, the best thing to look for is that you don't have exposed, unshielded wiring, particularly near to the CB transceiver.

As for the open mic - I have never understood why Honda did this. They clearly have a voice-activated mute for the radio, because it mutes the radio when you talk. Why they couldn't also have that activate the intercom (so when you talk, it switches FROM radio TO intercom, and then back once you stop talking) is beyond me. To have two open mics with wind noise blasting your ears at all times is just idiotic. It's one of the reasons my next bike will likely have an aftermarket intercom.
