Hi, newbe here and have a question. I have installed the progressive 450 shock on my GL 1500. It has a loose washer riding on the shock shaft. It is under the rubber bump stop on the bottom of the shock. All I can see it is good for is rattling on the shaft. I assembled it and took it for a test ride and it does make alot of noise. Any ideas????
Bike is down, need help asap!!!!!!
Thanks, Popcop

I can't right know as I'm not that computer savvy. But if you know the shock, I can give you a mental pic. I hope. If you were to hold the shock upsidedown, the shaft going upward. There is this rubber bumper cone shaped on the shaft. That slides up and down the shaft depending how far you have compressed the shock while riding. Now on the top side (upsidedown) there is about a 1 in. dia. washer that just free floats from the top of the rubber cone to the top of the shock (upsidedown). It rattles everytime you hit a bump etc. I can't see any reason for it being were it is. It just sits in the real bottom of the shock and rattles. I am going to call progressive and ask them also. Thanks for any imput you may have.

| Sorry I can't help much either most of the Progressive shocks I see on 'Wings are the 416s. Never have seen a 450 on a 'Wing yet.

I'm not a 450 user either, but if this is a correct picture:

and if I understand your description correctly, it may be that the washer supports the bushing when it bottoms out, and perhaps the bushing should be pushed all the way against the washer... just a guess from your words and this picture.. I could be out ot lunch..

My brother and I put the 450 Progressive rear shocks on our 97 and 98 1500SE's about two moths ago but there was washer or anything else free floating on the shock shaft????? Does it look like it is belongs up on the underside of the piston housing? Yes, I would definitely call Progressive or exchange it at your original purchase site. One of the 450's we got was covered in oil upon receipt in the box and Wingstuff exchanged it no questions asked. Good luck.

I got ahold of progressive, and they tell me that, the washer is supposed to be there, and upon my first full compression of the shock that the rubber buffer would seat it into the bottom of the shock itself. They tried to tell me that it was explained in my instructions, after reading them 3 time and my wife once, it isn't mentioned in the instructions. So if anyone gets a 450 and they have a loose washer, don't worry about it. Thanks for all the help!

| Have you ever tried to bottom out a "Progressve" shock before? Needs a "BIG" bump and a lot of weight.

I'm just going by what they told me at progressive. As long as it works, I'll be happy. At least it isn't rattling anymore.
