THE RADIO DOESNT PLAY VERY LOUD.   ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO HEAR THE RADIO THRU THE SPEAKERS WHILE RIDING?  I CANT IMAGINE BEING ABLE TO HEAR IT LIKE IT IS NOW.   IT HAS BEEN SITTING FOR ABOUT 10 YRS THE 1ST TIME I TURNED THE RADIO ON IT CRACKLED ALOT AND WAS SCRATCHY....WHEN TURNING THE KNOBS,.  NOW ITS ALMOST CLEAR, EXCEPT FOR A RINGING SOUND THATS COMING FROM THE SPEAKERS.

THIS IS AN 86' GL1200ASEi, CAN YOU BUT REPLACEMENT STEREOS MAYBE ONE WITH CD INSTEAD OF TAPE?      IM NOT LOOKING FOR A HIGH DOLLAR SYSTEM, BUT I AM GOING DEAF AND CANT HEAR VERY WELL AND NEED MORE  P O W E R!

When the radio is operating correctly, you can hear it through the speakers very nicely at any speed.

I would take the whole unit out and give the contacts a clean.  Those OEM  4 ohm 8 watt speakers aint exactly the last word in audio excellence either.  I replaced mine with 20 watt units from a car stereo, and am now thinking about a 130 watt pair on e-bay.

Having only just bought a wing, I thought I had the same problem, but the mute button was pushed in on the left handlebar control.

Ditto! My mute button was stuck, the button went in and out but it took a little electronic tuner cleaner to make it work right. Now it just switchs back and forth between AM and FM on it's own,,,, I hope some more cleaning will help. I wondered what a replacement radio would cost for an 84 aspy?

Good Luck

Steve-O

replacement radios can vary greatly in cost.  watch e-bay if you're really interested.  I think you will find you'll try anything to get yours to work before spending what they want for one! :P

Thank You for the information, I kind of suspected that. I emailed the company that repairs these radios, I got the name from this forum, even though I can't remember it right now, but it's been a week and no reply, maybe they have enough business for right now. I think I will search for another repair shop to contact, from the sound of what they may want for a replacement radio. What a GREAT forum, chocked full of useful information and helpful WINGERS !! Thanks Again!!

Blessings

Steve-O
