Hi all. Greetings. I have had my wing for nearly two years. It is regularly serviced by a dealer but lately its developed a fault that prevents it from starting. This can be after a run where I stop and it wont start. Its like the battery is run down but I know this cant be right. I tried to start it this morning for work and the same thing happened.
It just gives a chug then nothing but a click. I connected the battery charger this evening and within a few minutes it was a green light. Needless to say it started OK. The last time it stopped on the roadside I waited 30 minutes then tried again and it started OK.
Does anybody have any ideas? Many thanks Keith..

| Do you hear the solenoid clicking each time you press the button? Also is the battery an old one, it might just be unable to hold a charge and needs replacing. Starter motors don't give trouble on the 6 cylinder Wings, so my money is on the battery being bad.

You have answered the question. Battery is not taking a charge so during use especially when hot, will not restart. Tried it the next morning would not start, put charger on it will start. A battery will slightly regain power if it sits a bit.......you need a new battery.....100 percent sure on this one. Kit

It could be that the battery is sulphated somewhat, thus it is charged as full as it can be, even though it isin reality only partially charged
Try this: Charge it until the light comes on, fully charged, then over charge it. To do this you need a charger that delivers 2, 10 and 50 amps depending where you set it. By overcharging you actually bubble the electrolyte and in time the sulfated solids go back into solution and mix with the acid to form conductors from the insulator bonded to the lead (sponge) plates. Careful on the amount of time about 2-3 minutes, and do do leave the charging battery alone. All safety precautions in force. This is called equalization and any lead acid battery that is constantly trickle charged needs to be equalized periodically.

| Thanks for your reply ARKnapp. I think that it would be safer to buy a new one. But thank you very much for your help. Keith..

My friend has a 06 1800 and when we were touring during last summer he had the same problem. it would start fine for days then nothing. You might hear the click from the solenoid which would throw you back to a faulty battery. The battery was fine but when we pushed down with a screw driver on the lead going to the solenoid the bike would start. We took off the left pannier and found the nuts were loose on both leads at the solenoids. just needed tightening. Never had a problem since.

| Yes, thank you John. I replaced the battery and have had no problems since. I had a devil of a job removing the left pannier though to check cables so abandoned this in favour of a new battery which paid off. Many thanks for your reply. Keith
