I love everything about my GL1100. What other 27 year motorcycle can be a dependable daily rider?
The one thing I would change if I could is the gear lash when rolling on the throttle after deceleration. It can be disruptive to getting the most out of the twisties. Is there anything that can be done to improve this? Or is it just the nature of the old beast?

These bikes have so many places that will contribute to the gear lash, starting in the rear wheel, final drive, drive shaft, to output shaft, to transmission, to the primary drive chain. There is considerable slop even on a brand new bike, and as things wear a bit, that slop gets bigger.
Place the bike on the centerstand and with the tranny in top gear, move the rear wheel back and forth and measure the distance that the face of the tire travels from stop to stop. Most are 2"-3" travel.
