well i drove to Parry sound and back on the weekend.about 600 km.
the bike ran great there and back.except every once in a while shifting into 4th.......it wont click into 4th sometimes.so i shift back into 3rd and then it shifts into 4th no problem.i never added any additives to the oil.
after 100,000 km im not surprised by the tranny.as long as it keeps running untill winter im not touching untill then.
i was mulling over a new sportster untill buying this gl100.
great bike (might buy a newer one)
hondas rule the rest drool.

The rattling could be (probably) the big trannie chain. They often start to rattle at low rev's. Carb synch and raising idle rev's to about 1100 might just take care of that.
The difference in speed/rev's between 80/81/82 and the '83's is to do with with different ratios in the final drive gearing in the '83 models.

| Your bike will run better and smoother with 87 octane. I would also synch the carbs as that's what produces a lot of noises. My 81 is a little rough on takeoffs but once it reaches 1500 rpm it smooths right out. Good luck, Bob
