Hi All.
I have recently replaced cam belts and fitted a 4 deg trigger wheel to my 89 GL1500.
Cam belts because I dont know how long since last replaced and trigger wheel to try to eleviate low speed hesitation that was a problem.

Overall the bike was going ok but I wanted to get it right for several trips coming up.
I have also fitted the TorqueMonster pipes from wingstuff and iridium plugs.

Overall the performance has gone up much better than antisapated along with fuel economy but i still had this hesitation niggle:(.

I was thinking carbs probably need to be synced:?.

Looking through several forums and discussing my problems with some very experienced Wing owners here in NZ I was advised to try the following.

I added 1/2 can of Diesel fuel Injector cleaner to a full tank of gas. (DO NOT USE FULL CAN. YOU CAN ALWAYS DO A SECOND RUN IF  REQUIRED) Went for a ride of about 50km's varying engine revs and leaving bike in 5th whilst pulling away from very low revs to hard out full acceleration from 2nd to 4th.

After about 10km I noticed bike was responding better, throttle response much more crisp and hesitation appeared less:).
By the end of my ride all traces of hesitation had dissapeared and performance had gone up several notches:shock::shock:. ALSO IDLE SPEED WENT UP BY APPROX 100RPM:baffled:

I am advised that quite often this condition is caused by the varnish buildup in jets and on the slides causing sticking hence hesitation at low speeds or at low revs in high gear under power.

The diesel cleaner was recomended as given the age of the bike it has a greater removal effect than the petrol equivilant.

I have passed this on to a couple of others with simular problems on both 1200 and 1500 machines.
In each case so far it has fixed the problem or almost fixed it. Two NZ owners even checked the carb sync both befor and after using additive.
In both cases there was significant improvement to the point that there was only minute adjustments needed to sync correctly.

I notice that there is mention of many riders in US using or recomending a product called seafoam. We do not have this product here in NZ.

1 person in US that I recommended this to had used seafoam to no effect but informed me that this tip had cured his problem.

I can only hope this might be of benifit to others.:waving:

Hi all. The product used was Wynns. I have been useing their products for over 20 years and have yet to have a problem. In fact I have had two incidents that I feel could have led to very expensive repairs had I not added their product to my vehicle.

Update on Injector cleaner.

Sorry fellas but I quoted the wrong product. It is Wynns Spitfire injector cleaner.

Just gone for a ride today with Robbie from Napier. His 1200 Aspy had the same problem so we put the other 1/2 of the bottle into his. After about 100km most of his symptoms have disapeared as well.

Wynns products have been in the US for many years and to the best of my knowledge and experience are very good products.
