| It is very hard to see. Above right header behind lower engine/frame long stud. I paid welder $70 to fix it.

| If you find a hole rusted in the frame it's a good idea to get an automatic center punch and test punch all over the frame to make sure there's no other weak areas. You don't want to have a main frame member fail when under way.

More than likely it's just a local problem. The HEAT/COLD cycle & condensation at that area had eat'n through the frame. It's really rare that bike frames rust through.
I've left my "cake out in the rain" for many years & the frame only has small spotty rust dimples, usually around the welds & rock dings.
Glad to hear it's fixed, $70 seems about right considering where the hole is/was at.
(am I glad I learned to weld, much cheeper) Have fun!

Any chance you could post a pic of the spot?
PS I just live down the road from you and have the same bike.
Who was your welder? Any good mechanics close by will go on my emergency list. Thanks

it was very hard to see with header installed.
It was not bike welder. Any weld shop will do the job I think. Guy wanted "40 tomorrow", I said: 60 today. Then I told him to weld extra piece so it came to 70

My another 84 Wing has hole in exactly same place and is going to the same welder. So you guys know what to do! Get a mirrior, lay down and pray!
The reason I think that frame is very close to header and paint cannot stand the heat.
