I have a 4 into 1 Header on my black bike with a glass pack muffler. Basically it has a 2 inch hole in the middle all the way from the jugs.   It required some tunning to eliminate backfiring.  Straight pipes have been done but would require rejetting due to lack of back pressure.  Getting the jets and what sizes to use I do not know about.

As a former Harley rider, and someone who has rode bikes since about 1966, that is the biggest "old wives tale" out there.  Noise is directional.  Unless you point your exhaust towards the front of your bike, 98% of the sound is going in the direction of the tail pipe.  This myth has been perpetrated by the Harley crowd, who like to pull up to a stop sign and blip their throttle to make racket, and to get noticed.  There is not one shred of evidence to prove that "Loud Pipes Save Lives".  What will save your life however, and has been proven, is plenty of lighting on the bike, very loud horn(or Horns), wearing your helmet, paying attention to your surroundings, and taking the Motorcycle Safety Course.

To test your theory, sit in a cage, with the windows up, the AC on, the radio on your favorite tunes, and talking on your cell phone.  Have someone with a nice loud bike come up the street, and see how far away it is from your cage, when you actually hear it, or notice it.  In most cases, the front wheel of the bike will be almost even with your door before you notice it, however, as he passes, it gets extremely loud.  Of course by then, you in your cage has already pulled out and ran over the biker, which was in your blind spot on your mirror.  Keep believing that crap, and you will find yourself in a hospital bed or worse.  I'll keep doing what I've done for about 40 years, stay alert, well lite, and if someone gets stupid on me, blast them with my dual air horns (which are pointed forward) and cause them to drop their cell phone and coffee and donut, and get back into their lane or be ready to swerve.:cooldevil::cooldevil:

However, all of the above PLUS louder pipes, can only be a good thing. (People walking along the roadside will hear you coming and saves on wearing out those big airhorns) LOL

Take care and have a great day.

Hey newbiker:waving:,  Keno, one of our members is who you need to talk to, he has the loudest pipes I have heard on a wing.  his sounds good.  I like my stock mufflers, but if I was younger I would like the loud pipes like he has.:)

If you'd like a throatier sound without the headaches of rejetting. Take a sawzall and cut the silencers off the pipes. Then get exhaust tips from someplace and mount them.

You end up with a throatier sound while not a headache sound. My last bike was a VMax ('85) that as soon as it stopped scaring me I'd do something to make it faster, when it was finished it was barely ridable, probably 200+ HP and had V&H racing pipes on it. Between the pipes and the K&N intakes it would give me a migraine every time I rode it.

I don't mind a bike sounding more like a bike than a sewing machine but...
