Hey guys, any of you ever used the Gates, dayco or goodyear timeing belts on an 84 1200? Just wondered if they were the same and as good as the over priced $85 a piece belts from Honda. I picked up the Fram oil filter for it the other day, it smaller then the OEM but seems to work fine. Thanks everyone.

I used Gates when I changed mine in January. Fit was perfect.

Napa is Gates and they can get them for you too.
Honda uses Gates as a supplier as I understand.

Here is a link to the 1200 goldwing site where I have a list of parts commerically available for the 1200 goldwing. It list everything from plugs to belts to lights, put it together and posted it to help out fellow riders.

http://www.gl1200goldwings.com/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=162

Hope you find it helpful.

Sounds like a good price, but never heard of anyone using the goodyear belts, just the gates.  Maybe they will work as good!

The part number for the Goodyear belts (40272) listed on the gl1200goldwings site is wrong (unless there is more than one part number that fits).

A couple of years ago I ordered the Goodyear 40070 "Gatorback" belts from PartsAmerica (Advance Auto Parts) and they fit and work perfectly.  Those are the ones you want:

I used the Napa belts on my 1200 several years back.

I am doing my belts on my 1500 this weekend and I got the Napa belts for that too.

The savings isn't quite as significant for the 1500 though $32 instead of $42 each.   But as I recall the savings was substantial on the 1200 belts.
