I agree with Kit the bike is so quite you hear noises you normally wouldn't.

You guys have got it lucky coz the whining i get from my back seat is unbearable, i wish she would get a Harley and keep all the noise in one place. :dude:

I was concerned about the whine when I first got my 1800 also.  It appears that it is a normal sound.  Give a listen to the sound on this page and you can hear the whine also. http://www.goldwingworld.com/pages/index1.htm

Mine was real noisy, when I first got it. There was a whine and a low 'growling' sound. I asked about these (the dealer) and was told it is the alternator gears doing the whining and the timing chain making the growling noise.

After the first oil change the whining was a lot less and is is getting quieter. I am braking it in a little 'hard', so this my be helping lap in the gears. The growling only happens at certain rpms. It's not a big deal.

The chattering? I haven't brought this one up.....yet. I will though. I'm figuring, a new machine. We are just getting to know each other. Reminds me of my old HD.

That whine is just the jet turbines spooling up. You boys are spoiled! Put on a half-helmet with your ears hanging out and go ride a Harley for a hundred miles. It'll scare the hell out of ya!
