hello all i have a 82 aspy, i have found some pretty bad dammage on my rear tire and this is very bad joojoo considering this is a daily driver that i put roughly 2k on a month lol. well the rear size that is on it is seeming to be pretty hard to track down so i am assumeing that it is not stock or if it is what else can work in its place..... size curently on bike is a 140 - 85 r16, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Find your local Cycle Gear store. They have a good deal on a Dunlop Elite III tire. Size MT90B16. Make sure it's the Rear tire. The '82 and '83 use the same sized rear tire. The front is harder to find, actually...

Check your other post. If you post the same question multiple times, it gets REAL confusing.

http://www.avon-tyres.co.uk/motorcycle/?page=fitment&method=fitments&manufacturer=31&id=703&model=&year=1982 The Dunlop Elite 3 is also a good tire and you shouldn't have any trouble finding one for the rear. Don't know if the Elite 3 front tire is availlable yet. Below is the link to Dunlops site. http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/fitmentguide.asp Last edited on Wed Oct 8th, 2008 07:25 pm by 83GoldWinger ____________________ 83GoldWinger 1983 GL1100 Interstate Bought New 25 Jan 1983 Candy Regal Brown (the most popular color) __________________________________________ 1968 Honda CL350 Bought in 1969 (and still have it) ___________________________________________ Photos of my '83 Interstate in the photo gallery. http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/gallery_view.php |

Wolf, I merged both of your topic posts, and left them in the Tech forum so you would only have to look for responses in one place. Mike

The '82 and '83 use the same sized rear tire. Call them back and give them the MT90B16 Rear part number. See what they come up with. They have CG all over, if they don't have it in stock, they can usually get it in 1 or 2 days. I got mine for $114 plus all the other charges, of course.

Welcome to this site. I did a search on your request 'tire rubbing' and found it seems common enough, especially with the Dunlops? Maybe they are using a larger mold or something. One trusted member said he went with a slightly narrower tire, the 130? instead. Another brand might work better, though. I use the Bridgestone Spitfire S11 tires on my 1980 1100. You might want to post a new topic for this, as this was a really old thread that might get overlooked. Looks like an interesting problem! How is the rest of the mechanical condition of the rear end? Wheel bearings, swingarm bearings, stuff like that?

Thanks Brian for the advice.... I'll post a new thread like you suggested. The bike is in immaculate shape. Bearings, swing arm, final drive are great as well. I'll have to post a photo with my handle. I thought about a 130 tire, but am not a big fan of changing what manufacturers recommend, but I might have to. I don't want a blow-out!!

Caution!!! The D-404 in the size 130-90-16 has a wieght rating of 677 lbs @ 41 psi. The Elite 3 has a wieght rating of 830 lbs. That is something to think about if you load up the old bike for a weekend and the two of you jump on it to go. How much wieght are you putting on that tire???? I think the D-404 is fine for a HD sportster but not for a Wing.
