Several different compounds are offered. Some metallic pad stop better than organic, but with quicker rotor wear. It's a trade off. EBC copper sintered work well. Read more here... http://www.babcox.com/editorial/bf/bf100636.htm

The brakes will not lock up the frt wheel on dry pavement. I rebuild all three calipers, both master cylinders and installed the EBS pads called for for an 82 standeard frt and back. The rear will lock up if I want it to, but the frt never has seemed strong enough. the rotors are not glazed, I have no air in the system, I see no evidence of any brake lines swelling and both frt lines are steel braided. What I have is a bike that is running at the top of the weight range when loaded. Is this all I can expect or are there different pads i should be using?

Jason m wrote: installed the EBS pads I have tried aftermarket pads on two different bikes and was very dissapointed in their performance. I think if you just pony-up the pennies for OEM pads, you will be surprised at how much better your brakes work. Just my opinion, but I have a right to it.

The front should definitely be able to lock up - I locked the front up on my 1100 during the MSF ERC course I took last year - didn't drop it, but came close. And that was BEFORE I rebuilt my brakes and put stainless lines on it. So if you have put stainless lines on it, and rebuilt the caliper and master cylinder, and still are unable to threshold brake or lock the front wheel, then there's something else still wrong.

okay not going with OEM they want $105.00 for the frt brakes alone. Does anyone know of a more aggressive pad thru aftermarket. I have the EBS pads for 1982 on it now.-

I am not trying to get in the improvement discussion but I want to add my two cents. I quit riding for 20 yrs and started again with an '83. My last was an '80. I have a really hard time with the brakes as a beginning ABS design..... I rebuilt my brakes completely with lines, calipers, master cylinders and OEM pads. I think "my" problem is a mental block to not press the rear brake hard enough for the combined proportioning valve braking...... In the "old days" I only used the rear for light drag in certain slick conditions to supplement the front. I depended on the front dual caliper to stand it on its nose in hard braking..... On the '83, the front brake or the rear/front combo used individually will not "stop" my bike only slow it. I am diligently workin on building confidence on the necessary use of both brakes but it is hard to break old habits. dj

I have the EBS pads for 1982 on it now.- Got this info from BikeBandit.com EBC Sintered Double-H Brake Pads YOUR PRICE $35.25 MSRP $37.11 "Product as advertised. Shipped quickly and fit like OEM but stops way better." "I just put these in my 929RR to replace the worn out OE pads, and all I can say is WOW!! Went on a spirited ride today and can't believe how hard they grab. I may have to adjust my riding style slightly due to how much better the initial bite is. Very, very good upgrade at a very reasonable price."

Seems like your Honda dealer is some kind of thief. Try this site. The way I read it, they want $60 & change for the 4 front pads. http://www.westernhonda.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=145979&category=Motorcycles&make=Honda&year=1982&fveh=3439 Do what you want but Honda has already done all the testing, under all kinds of conditions, and decided this was the most effective compound for your bike. It's not a generic compromise.
