I am on my 3rd Licence plate chrome surround (as per picture) as I keep having to replace it as it gets tiny scratches and swirls as a result of cleaning it.

I am looking for ideas to prevent this happening and so make this the last one I have to buy.

Is there anything (polish, laquer, etc)  to keep these plastic chrome finishes looking good please ?

Thanks

I use Windex  window cleaner , But i found that if i use a Flannel rag (i cut up old flannel bed sheets) That it doesnt leave the swirl scratches.

I use flannel rags for all the chrome plastic and chrome medal.

Mutton cloth is non abrasive and I agree with using awax (non abrasive) or spray window cleaner instead of chrome cleaner, which really should only be used very occasionally.

Not being metal, why use a metal polish? Treat it as paint and wax it as others have said.

Thanks for all the replies.

I have never used Chrome Cleaner on Plastic Chrome but I think some of the "paste" type waxes may be the cause of the problem

I have just given it 3 coats of liquid Carnuba Wax and it has come up really good.

Thanks again

Watch out for the wax's including some of the carnuba wax's. Look at the container. If it says "cleaner" anywhere, it usually also has an abrasive added that will cut into the outer film of the plastic chrome finish.

Thanks for the tip ... No "cleaner" anywhere on the bottle, just wax.

:leprechaun: Just use Lemon/orange pledge.   Spray the whole bike down with it and wipe it off.

Cleans and shines, never hurts a thing.  Cheap too, I bought a whole sackful of it last week at the dollar store, two bucks a can.

Simply use water with car shampoo. When it's dry, use Turtle Wax. (This has to be applied with a wet pad, so the water marks from washing are also gone.) And it's not abrasive.
