But again thanks for all of the info.I installed a belly pan to protect the underside of my bike after bottoming out on a row of sand after a rainstorm. I do not know if it helped with any handling. In fact the first ride I took in some decent wind after install, I thought maybe the bike was worse but that could have been all imagination.
In any event, while the belly pan can help protect and I recommend it, I wouldn't say it did anything to improve the ride. Wind is wind. It'll try push you around. Other posters above have mentioned common sense and relaxed attentive riding. That's the best advise you can get.

When I was a young lad my family used to make the trip from Megler, Wa to Astoria, OR on the old wooden army ferries that used to make the crossing. It often could be the hairiest boat ride you could imagine, water pouring through the car deck and the wind really blowing. When the wind was strong up river and the tide was going out the waves really would stand up. I think that bridge was one of the best things the ever did for that area of the country.

I've been across that bridge. It's a good one. Another great bridge across the Columbia is The Bridge Of The Gods. Very interesting in high winds because it's vey high and you can see right through the grates, straight down to the water.

Been over the Astoria-Megler bridge so many times it is hard to count..Many of the bridges over the Columbia river are tough in the wind..I have seen the wind howl thru Hood river at 100 MPH and they shut down I84..Most of the bridges are closed at 60 +.. Wind and bridges are a bad combo no matter what..To unpredictable..But I have to agree..Relax and stay alert..
