Got to adjust the timing just a bit and test ride her last night. I have an old Prestolite electronic ignition and I'm going to have to cut the bushing to get it to adjust enough.
I'll move her bit by bit. Idle is greatly improved but will still hunt about 200 RPM.
Spenser enjoyed the fact that he could still hear me all over town and my mufflers set off two car alarms. She is just a bit antisocial.
I need to adjust the clutch but shifting and brakes were fine, tranny sounds good, response to throttle is very good. You could ride her every day just as she is.

I don't have a problem with 'a bit anit-social'.
I like anti-social. I run straigh pipes on mine. Can't get much more anti-social.

The '03 V-Star 1100 I used to ride came from the dealer with an exhaust that would set off every car alarm with in 50 yards. I REALLY liked that one.

This is a Weber 32DFTA believe it came off a Ford Festiva or a "Yugo 1.1 liter",hard telling at this point. Both barrel's are the same size and progressive. The GL1000 is a liter,GL1100 is 1.1 think it will work without re-jetting"hope". If anyone has used this or knows how it works I need all the help I can get. With two machines to get running again is a fun project.

I cut the bushing off the Prestolite and have advanced the ignition an estimated ten degrees. This has cut the hunt down to about 50 RPM.
I'm going to be rewireing a Norton tonight for a neighbor so I may not get back to this bike for a few days. I'd like to do the tuning when the weather is warmer.
I'm a bit surprised how far you have to advance the timing to get a good idle. I'm not there yet.

When I put the Pertronics pointless ignition in my 1960 Willys Cj5 I was also surprised how far I had to advance the timing for the initial timing.

My '78 Started and ran at the stock setting. But it starts and runs better at the advanced setting.

I have heard of guys selling a CI kit because they could not get it to idle. If they had not looked up the manual or looked at the timing section I can see why.
This would not have run decent at all on the stock settings. I forget exactly what I was getting but it was a several hundred RPM variation. Then they want a higher than stock idle, 1150 isn't it?, in order to get a steady idle.
If this also applies to other single carb experiments it may be very good for folks to remember.
I have to wonder if manifold heat would allow this to improve the idle and use closer to stock settings? It may also just come from the carb being so far away from the valve.

Not sure on that. I have to wonder if the stockers woulda idled better on mine if'n I had just turned the timing up a bit.
You are just changing where the spark hits, the valve to piston timing stays the same.

I am getting the itch again.  Wife is going out of town to visit relatives so I might have to put a chair up and work on my carb.  it has been rejetted and ready to install.  seeing few goldwings this weekend got me ready to ride.  Still on cruches though.  have 2 more months but I will take them to get the bike going.   Saw a nice 75 gold wing in mint shape today infront of shoney's today on the way to work.  Had to stop and meet the driver.   I was Pete Booty that works on carbs.  He is a cool fellow.  He was waiting for someone to bring one by for him to restore.

You need a side car until your leg is better.
Or a tryke.

I would love one.  There is a guy down the road will build my bike into a trike for about $3000.    I also have been looking for a good side car.  My wife might ride if I got a side car.

Funny story you reminded me of.  Last year, I saw a group of fellows in knoville gas station that were driving old honda's.  One had a side car and I asked who was driving and he was inside the store.  While I was leaving I saw a fellow come hobbling out on crutches and put them in the side card.  :action::?

The sidecar outfit I have is a Chang. It is amazing how much attention sidecars get since they are so rare.
A couple years back I was in rough shape but I could still drive the sidecar outfit.
I've always thought a wing with a sidecar would work very well.

Well I got outside last night and unbolted the old carter carb that I tried for a single carb conversion but wont work for the single carb conversion and tried to put my solex 30 pict 2 carb, onto the 2barrel to one barrel adapter.

Dang...too small of bolt pattern.:X  I found on the internet an adapter that will convert a solex 30 to a solex 34 bolt pattern which is what I need. :clapper:I found one locally at- Speed Shop 865-882-0093 which is the place LD's website says to get the carbs that he uses on his manifold.  They are a Volkswagon repair shop.  Wonderful people. It is were I got my .050 jet for the carb.  The adapter is $17 and I will pick it up Friday.  Hope to install it Saturday.

I'm waiting too to hear how that works out! Seems like it would be a pretty close match to requirements.
