I need to update the photos but thanks to you I did find a residual valve, didn't know they existed until you told me to install one, installed it along with a new mustang line that connects to the bike brakes. The brakes are nice, just to make sure I jacked up the rear of the trike spun the wheels and hit the brakes-----I was in business. I also have enough slack to move the differential back enough to remove the driveshaft without disconnecting the brakes-----I hate to work on brakes. I will be removing the engine next month to replace the stator and this should speed up the process. I'll holler at you when I get the pictures updated but don't laugh when you see them, not near as professional as your trikes but it turned out just like I thought it would and it's probably the only 1200 Standard like it.

i been wanting to do a standard or at least make one a one seater rat trike. maybe one day. be careful on your brakes sitting still jacked up ain't the same as rolling down the road with all the weight to stop. just saying it is some different.

I thought about turning my '81 GL1100 into a trike untill I noticed the whole driveshaft/swing arm combination thing. How do you get around that? -MNFATS

What rear end did you use? I see how wise it was of you to use one that has an offset pumpkin! This gives me hope for my trike dream. Ah, but then there is the altering the end of the driveshaft issue... -MNFATS

The rear end I used was a 1983 Ford Mustang, it has drum brakes but the residual valve I used made all the difference. My mentor, Skoto1, recommended using Moser Engineering to cut and respline the axles. They are great and not very expensive, I cut the same amount out of the axle housing tubes and had a professional welder weld the ends back on and they are straight. His instructions were to measure, measure and measure again and when I got the same numbers I made the cuts. The drive shaft was the easiest part. Because this one is a Standard I wanted to keep all the original parts so I used a doner drive shaft and the front drive shaft from a 2000 Ford F150 4x4. The bike drive shaft's gear end OD is slightly larger than the Ford drive shaft ID and once I got the rear end mounted to the bike I could get the correct length, cut off the excess from the Ford drive shaft and just tapped the Honda drive shaft into the Ford drive shaft, remember there is about 3/4 of a inch compression on the bike drive shaft. I then took the drive shaft to a drive shaft repair shop and had them align/weld/balance the two together and it was perfect.

Thank you for the info. I now have a better picture of the project, but I'm still unclear about a thing or six. Like, if 1/2 of the bike swingarm has just been hooked to a rearend as a driveshaft, what is left to serve as a connection between the bike and the rearend? And what is all this I read about a $1,000 triple tree so the trike will be safe? If only someone close by had a GW trike I could examine it close enough not to bug you guys out there so much with questions I suspect are elementary to you.

Skoto Just found your build and it's Fantastic !! Keep up the good work !! It's inspiring to see the metal work you have done. What do you think the metal body weighs ? I've done fabricating on streetrod bodies but never considered doing it on a Goldwing. How much more do you think it weighs over a glass body? The VW fenders give it a great look ! Keep up the great work ! I'm looking forward to seeing this as a finished project. Bill

The $1000.00 triple trees is probably an EZ steer rake kit. Got one on the tubbed 'Wing. The extra rake just makes steering it alot easier...possibly safer as it requires less input to turn the bike.

i have found the trees for 799. a little better price than a 1000. but i have never needed one. i have never weighted a metal body but it's probably twice as heavy as the fiberglass one i make now. i can carry the metal body around not to bad. but the fiberglass one is much lighter. depends on how much body filler you use. the 1200 i did pulled the metal body without a noticeable difference.

I guess I would have to ride a trike with one, and one without one, to compare. -MNFATS
