:waving:  Greetings all...to those who are going through riding withdrawals due to wintry weather...Spring is just over a month away!  :action:

Ok..enough with the pleasantries...I have a 1993 GL1500SE Wing :15white: and am going to be changing out the two front speakers with new J&M's. :cooldj:
I know I can go to "the book" and, after digging for some time, find the poorly photographed procedures to get to the old speakers and switch them out, :baffled: but I also know that those of you in here have easier, faster, and clearer ways of obtaining my goal.    Does anyone have a set of simplified plans  to replace the front speakers, or know of a web site that has them posted, preferably with photographs?  Obviously I came here first, 'cause who does it better than Steve Saunders?  :2finger:  But there are no helpful hints that I can find here.  any ideas?  Thanks in advance!

I know there is a "cheat" for getting those stupid covers off, and I read it here some time ago, but darned if I can't find it! There is a way to carefully pry them off, but you can also bend/ break em unless you do this "cheat". Maybe someone else will remember and chime in. Good luck, and what a nice avitar! Made me and my wife smile! jimsjinx

Anyone come up with any ideas yet?  Looks like I'll have to yank the front end plastics off...this looks like a job for "Weekend Man"!!!

I'm currently doing similar things with my bike. For mine, I couldn't see much of a short cut if any (I had to get to the instrumentation anyway).

I wouldn't necessarily call it a job for "weekend man", but maybe a job for "Saturday Afternoon Man". Maybe it's because I'm tearing mine apart, it just didn't seem that tough.

No real 'safe' shortcut, as you may break the speaker panels  as noted above.

If you've never taken the Tupperware off before, then it will probably take you the better part of a day to pull the bit of Tupperware/mirrors/windshield adjustment levers and hardware/windshield/vent louvers/headlight aim knob/dash panel, replace speakers and reassemble.

Don't worry   .... the more you do it, the faster you become at it and it won't seem so daunting a task!

Hmm ..... wonder where that stretch of blacktop leads to ......

What has Dusty been up to

Prevent/Repair those cracked 1500 trunk lids by installing a set of Rudy's Lid Reinforcement Panels to the underside of your trunk lid.

Just did a similar tear down to replace my speedo cable.  I read pleanty of posts from you guys with small hands, could not do it that way.  Its not to hard as long as you remember how you took things apart.  Eliminate distractions and take plenty of shots with a digital camera.

Good Luck

PS Got my bike back together and still no speedo.   Ordered more parts.
Speedo hub on the way.

I like the "plenty of shots" part until I noticed you meant take lots of pictures, not empty a bottle of Jose'!!!  :alco::cheeky1:

When I get around to it, I'll do my best to take lots of pics for myself and everyone else!

Reminds me of a story of doing something really easy to do like take the Harmonic Balancer off the boat engine. Well we started with a bottle of Yukon Jack, and after exploring our options we ended up using a HAMMER and PRY BAR most of the afternoon and gave up. Next day we took the bolt loose on the front and removed it quite easily. Yeah, booze and work just don't mix very well.
