I have a buddy with a very sweet 1200.. He recently replaced the stator, but put off fixing the issue concerning the three wires leading  from the stator to the rectifier until he could "buy" a kit to to eliminate the connector block. (did not know they sold a kit for this?)  So, he install's this kit and turns on the ignition. POOF!!!  melting wires, and the smell of burning insulation!... He needs my help in figuring out where things went wrong. i have no info as to what all he did prior to the burning stator wires. obviously he has no idea himself. Both of us are left wondering if he burned up a replacement stator ???  Is there anyone here had a simalar experience like this.?   trying to dertermine what may have caused this electrical short.   personally i think he still had battery power on while installing this KIT i have never heard of.   Probably fried the windings in the replacement stator. but then again that's my opinion. and you know what they say regarding opinion's... knowbuddy

i never heard of a kit to do such thing but all he had to do is weld the wires, probably would be best to wire it directly to the regulator cuz there are other connectors on the way that may melt.

Any "kit" for that would be overkill IMO. I just cut the connector off and soldered the 3 wires, used some shrink wrap, then topped that off with electrical tape. Hmmmmm.... Maybe I could package together some stuff and sell my own kit! $19.95 + shipping.

Hope he didn't fry the new stator. Sounds to me like some wires got pinched, shorted out and melted. Good luck!

As already stated all he had to do was solder the 3 wires together. No need for any type of kit. However before he solders the wires he can check to see if has damaged the stator. With just the three wires coming from the stator...check each one to see if there are any shorts to ground, make sure there is continuity between each wire and after starting it see if he has 70+ volts ac . You can find this procedure in the manual. If it fails any of these tests he has most likely ruined the stator

Unless he did something way wrong or the "kit" is junk it should not have hurt the stator. Even if 12v was applied directly to the stator wiring I doubt it would damage it, just make an electro magnet out of it. It should have popped the main fuse before damaging anything, provided it is wired through the fuse.

Maybe a little change in the description of "soldering the three wires together" might be in order. Someone MAY think that means to literally solder all 3 wires together; When it should be solder EACH wire to one other that goes to the regulator/ rectifier in place of the plug that usually causes the problem..Just a thought...
