i think i need to adjust the "play" in my rear brake pedal...'82 Aspemcade. i know it's disc brake, but can't the pedal play be adjusted somehow? it seems like the brake is dragging at times. this may not be the fix for a disc set up, but what else do i need to check. the bike hasn't been ridden for probably 4-5 months. could the disc just use a cleaning? thanks

If the drake is dragging you should start by taking caliper apart, clean and polish the pistons and clean every thing else. Dido for the master cylinder. Purge the system with fresh fluid. Bled the brakes and then adjust the pedal play at the master cylinder. I would replace the pads just because your there anyway. I would also replace the brake line but some may disagree. Don't wait to long or you could warp he rotor. Steve

Could be a couple or three problems. The brake pedal itself sticking, the caliper piston sticking or prehaps the master cylinder clogged up. First I would lubricate the brake pedal with WD-40 or any penetrating oil and work it in to see if it will free up. Common problem with these older wings . If that doesn't help then you can expect a problem with the caliper piston or master cylinder.

There is no adjustment on the rear pedal to take out "play". You can adjust it only to raise or lower the pedal height. If there is play its from air in the lines or the "rubber cup" on top of the piston in the master cylinder is leaking. If the brake is dragging its probably a plugged pressure relief hole in the master cylinder or a stuck caliper or caliper piston. When was the last time the brakes were rebulit and what color is the fluid?.

Dido on the pressure relief hole. Its a very small hole, You can miss it if you don't know its there, Smaller then the one you will see right off.
