my last rider ( wife ) failed to securely close one of the small stowage compartment doors ( below the right rear speaker ) and it rattled open during my ride this morning. when i got off, my foot hit it and broke one of the small hinge tabs that hold the cover on. @#$%^&**&^%$#!! i may have to fabricate a new hinge tab ( metal? ), but thought first I'd try to glue the broken piece back on if anyone can recommend a strong choice for this material.

ABS Glue (A solvent). If you file some ABS Plastic into it, you can make a paste. Works great - lots of people on here with more experience than I. Buy at home depot or other - it's kept near the PVC glue - but don't confuse one for the other.

I used stainless steel tie wire and works like a charm. Here is a link to another thread on the same topic. http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/forum1/90760.html

I was going to glue mine too, but there was such a little surface area - I figured it might be an exercise in futility. And I didn't want anything on the exterior. I took a chunk of #10 AWG solid copper out of a piece of Romex, and made the loop part I needed. I bent it so it would snap into a couple holes I drilled in inconspicuous spots inside the compartment. Finished her off by scraping the dried-up gasket material out of the plastic channel, and making new stuff out of truck box-to-cap peel 'n stick foam. Looks stock from the outside, and nice and dry inside. Last edited on Sat Jul 10th, 2010 12:21 am by Wingnumberone ____________________ 6'-2", 210, old Geezer Glide and a big dumb grin. Good ideas. I just took some velcro strips along the sides of the door. It holds excellent, just a bit challenging to open.

I built off kennyd's solution. Thanks for your photo!! Used a single piece of AWD10 single strand wire as the "hinge pin". Used three tie down points ( center and ends ) Removed all remnants of plastic hinge pins and created grooves of similar diameter in their places ( red arrows ), using a drill bit. Drilled three pairs of small holes ( blue arrows ) for fastening the "hinge pin" to the compartment body in the grooves. ![]() Fed "hinge pin" through door loops ( photo below ). "Hinge pin" wire not shown in this photo. VERY careful in this step bending the wire without putting ANY twist on the hinge loops. It would be VERY easy to rip one of these off while getting the hinge wire in place! ![]() Fastened hinge pin wire at three points to comparment ( red arrows ). ![]() Example of attachment method show on scrap of wood ( photo below ). Used small "V" of cut wire on back of each fasten point to tighten the attachpoint after initial twist of wire secured it in place. Used one uninsulated wire for middle attachpoint. Conerns about wire breakage/weathering caused me to use insulated wire for outer attachpoints. Plastic wire ties might work nicely but would require bigger holes to be drilled in the compartment. ![]()
