| I have a new 2008 Glodwing and although I have been riging for 40 years tis is my first Goldwing. I and was wondering how they handle in the rain?

Welcome to the forum from Florida!
If the new ones handle as good as my 85, then I can't see anything to complain about.
My only problem was when the road started getting puddles in the ruts made from trucks, the splash would get my feet soaked.

The 1800 is in my opinion the best motorcycle ever made to ride in the rain with. It has the most important thing for riding in the rain.......balance and very sure and positive and smooth brakes. So it is the King of the rain.....so to speak.....if you want to ride in the rain.
I do not mind riding in a slow easy gentle rain.......once the first few minutes of it is over...you do really have to be careful on any bike.....when the road first gets wet.....but an 1800 with ABS helps on that too.
If you start getting heavy rain.......cannot see because of it......and the roads start to puddle......it is best on any motorcycle to just pull over and wait it out. Those puddles can put you down very easy.......right after I got mine I came out of a puddle sliding and hydroplaning.......under power and counter steering hard......to keep control.....I knew better......had a brain fart......should have just pulled over......you would think I should know better........still do not know why I kept pushing it..........must have been some kind of recessive idiot gene Occasionally these machines will wake us up.......Kit

I’ve had mine in the rain, a little – just got it. It does well. It protects you from the rain and the water being thrown up, from the road, from other vehicles. We ride it to work, which is both highway traffic and secondary road traffic. There is a truck weight station along our route, so I cannot avoid the 18 wheelers. Even with that Mama never got wet.
I, on the other hand, am 6’4”. My chin is at the same level as the top of the window, when it is pulled up all the way. So, from the chin up, I get wet. Which, after a fashion, runs down the front of me and I do get wet from this. I’m replacing the stock window, with the 4 over F4. This, and some RainX, should solve that.
Compared to my old Shovelhead, there is no comparison. I haven’t used the ‘heaters’ yet, this should be interesting. I’ll no more as we head into the winter.Last edited on Sat Jul 19th, 2008 03:16 pm by ScooterTramp

So far, so good. The F4 comes up to the bridge of my nose. This should ‘do it’. I was surprised to find out, it will raise up an inch or so.
In the ‘down’ position, I can see over the top if I have to. I do not have to ‘stretch’ to do it, but I do have to sit up. In the up position, it is perfect for looking through.
In the down position, the top of the F4 is right in my line of sight. Although annoying, it isn’t a deal breaker. Pulling the F4 up all the way, gets rid of this. I’ll let you know how it works in the rain, as soon as I find out.
One things for sure, I’m feeling a whole lot better about flying road debris. I’ve got a lot of gravel truck around here.

A big warm welcome to the site Champ....good to have you on board.
Being from the UK a fairly large proprtion of our riding is done in the rain.  I would say that a Wing is as good a bike to be subjected to rain on, as any bike out there, giving you better protection than most.
Like Kit said, the 1800 has the advantage of excellent brakes and so this gives further peace of mind. Not sure if your model has ABS, but that is a bonus if you have. All the Europen spec models have ABS and with all the rain we get maybe that is why!!!!
I find mine as sure footed as any bike I have ever ridden, so go ahead and enjoy the wet!!!

| What you on about silverfox, i haven't seen any rain, well maybe just a tad. Welcome Champ, as you have been riding for 40 years dont think you will have a problem really, the bikes are stable and seem to hug the road even it wet conditions, just get used to the size be smooth, you will have no problems
