Hi,
I just want to say hello and provide a short introduction. My wife and I hail from upstate SC and are the proud owners of an '87 GL 1200 Aspencade. We don't get to ride as much as we would like (7 days per week ). I've been riding for 20+ years and we've owned the 'Wing for about a year. I look forward to being an active part of this site.
Thanks for having us.
Jim

Hi,
just joined the site and wanted to say hello. I also want to say thanks for having such a site devoted to the Goldwing's that we ride and love.
My wife an I hail from the upstate of SC. I have been riding for 20+ plus years but this is the 1st bike that I have been able to get my wife to ride with me. Prior to the Wing, I rode a Yamaha Virago XV1100. I have owned a couple of other bikes over the years.
Actually, I have been "lurking" in the shadows for several weeks. I have learned so much about the Goldwing that I now own. I have an '87 Aspencade that I bought last August. I am the third owner and the bike has been well cared for. As can be expected, there were a few "bugs" to work out. I think with the help of the members of this site that most of them will be gone shortly.
Just a list of things I've done so far.
1. Added wind wings.
2. Complete detail to almost new condition.
3. Repaired left speaker. (broken wire)
4. New mirrors with chrome backs.
5. New chrome grill.
6. Various other chrome pieces.
7. New foot pegs.
Now for the latest bug. We went on a charity ride last weekend and it ran hot on me. This was at very low speed. I got it back home and have been troubleshooting this week. I had today off and was finally able to track down the issue. The thermostatic switch was bad. I ordered one from Mother Honda (ouch). I also took the opportunity to flush the cooling system, change the plugs, new timing belts, new thermostat, check all the brakes and bleed the clutch.
Hopefully, once I get the new switch and put it all back together, we will be able to enjoy many safe and enjoyable miles without problems.
While I have things apart, is there anything else that I should focus on?
I apologize for such a long post but I DO love my 'Wing!
Thanks,
Jim

Hello SCWinger and welcome to the family from another SC member!!
There are a few of us getting together the first weekend of November for a ride of the Blue Ridge Parkway. You're more than welcome to join with us. Here's the link to the thread. It'll give you the opportunitty to meet some of the forums members face to face, have a good ride and conversation. When you get the chance post some pics of your bike in the gallery.

Well, the thermostatic switch I had ordered finally arrived today. I installed it, installed the radiator, and added coolant. I started the bike to check for leaks and to burp the system. I had a small leak at the top of the radiator at the clamp. Tightened the clamp, and presto, no more leak. I brought the bike up to temp and as soon as it hit 4 bars, the fan came on, cooled it down and I had my 'wing back!!
I took it for a 20 mile test ride and no leaks, ran fine at low speed, fan works like new, and the temp never went over 4 bars.
Thanks for all the info and suggestions.

Belated welcome, there's just somehing about the 1200 series styling. Very hard not to keep looking at, and your Aspy is no exception. Good looking Wing...
