Hello, everyone, looks like a very cool site. I am buying a 1986 Goldwing Interstate 1200 in the morning. It is a two owner bike always garaged and very clean. 21,000 miles. I got a very good deal on this bike at 2500.00 US It is all original, trunks etc. Even a brand new set of tires that he bought 5 months ago and has not had them installed yet. He is not desperate to sell and does not need the money he just has no time to ride etc. Last time he rode it was three months ago and it ran perfect and smooth. sat for three months and he started it and it runs fast and rich im thinking any way. Im no guru so any help on this or opinions on these bikes etc would help me greatly. He thinks its running like the choke is stuck or something? Thanks in advance, Bryan S

check for the last maintenance done on the bike.
ask when was the last time the timing belts were changed. fluids and filters, carbs serviced/rebuilt.

the bike may need some sea foam and fresh gas the only way to know if the choke valves are stuck is removing fairing lowers and inner cover and ull see them.

William, thanks for the info, im pretty excited about getting this gold wing. I have owned harley's choppers, crotch rockets etc but for some reason a goldwing seems like a nice smooth ride that you can put some miles on. Nice bike you have also i checked your pics out. Thanks again, Bryan S

Hi Bryan S and welcome to the site. Please include your location so we know where you are located. The 86 is a great bike. I had one and still like that style, over the rest.

I took the liberty to move this thread to the new members forum. As you go over your bike, throw us your best questions in the tech forum. Gets more exposure there.

If there were a problem with the choke (enrichener) it would run "fast and rich." Check the cable that it did not slip etc. Watch the choke work at the carbs. Are they opening and closing all the way. You might be on the right track. If it runs crazy fast and makes a sucking sound check for a bad vacuum leak.
